Started welbutrin

Posted by markwell on May 22, 2011, at 11:03:54

This is my second day on a slow release welbutrin. I didn't sleep well last night and my anxiety is high, very high. The last time I tried welbutrin I went a month without sleep, I can't go down that road again. It's the racing thoughts that are killing me. I'm going to give it a few more days. My pdoc is frustrated as am I. If I could find something for the racing thoughts, perhaps something natural I could give these drugs a longer trial. Any ideas on the racing thoughts? I tried risperdal, it worked but totally unacceptable se. I continue to be in a very hard place. Any thoughts? Anyone get help with racing intrusive thoughts? Benzos are out as well as ap's.

Markwell, I have the memory of a goldfish. Could you list you past meds?

Did you try any maoi's?

I did Google racing thoughts once w/you in mind. Found a site by Jim Phelps as well from another poster. Did you look at that site yet? Seems he deals with bipolar, and acknowledges the difficulty of working with BPll especially. It's worth a look because he has lists of meds and is and seems to be (to me) a tireless creative thinker w/a positive attitude towards treatment.

Let me see if I can find the exact link--unless you'd rather me not.

P.S. I don't expect too much success from Wellbutrin. Are you in the position to get a second opinion?

Sorry about that. I find it poorly organized, and I actually wrote him a few questions and added that his search engine doesn't work. True.

I did read there about racing thoughts as a Hallmark of BPll that goes underrecognized as a BP spectrum illness.

So did you see the list of nine antidepressants that aren't antidepressants?

And I forget if you have tried the maoi class.

I haven't given up looking. Any chance of a second opinion? That may not appeal to you. I understand.

I share your lack of confidence in Wellbutrin.

I take zyprexa for racing thoughts. I also take wellbutrin sr(gen). Without the zyprexa I would never be able to take the wellbutrin. The zyprexa is also great fo anxiety. The only sideeffect of zyprexa(for me) is sedation. Which the wellbutrin helps against.

Markwell

How is it going with the WB? I am pleased to read Zyprexa's more affirmative post. I truly apologize for my pessimism. I hope the Wellbutrin is helping you.

Very kind regards,

fb

I hope you post an update.

I'm on such a low dose...150mgs, I don't feel any different. It's definitely not helping with racing thoughts. Again, my dr won't let me zyprexa due to td. I'm not really too hopeful about the welbutrin as I tried it several yrs ago for depression and it didn't touch it.

From my experience and from reading, Wellbutrin on it's own is pretty mild. I have used it and seen it used as an add-on, at least on this board.

Is it giving you an energy lift? I agree that your dosage is
low.

I'm curious about the level of satisfaction you feel with this psychiatrist. There must be (I believe there are) other options to help you with this debilitating symptom.

I know I sound like a broken record :( sorry. But has anyone mentioned the maoi class, like parnate for energy? You can add your stabilizer to that (I believe--don't take my word for it).

I don't know why your doc is seeming so hesitant to treat (just my impression). Do you, possibly, underrepresent your distress to her (it is a her?)? I ask because I really used to do that, and it really worked to my detriment.

So maybe AP's are out. It could be. Seems that way in my own case. But you haven't exhausted your options.

If I'm way off here, please let me know, okay?

Have you gotten TD from zyprexa before. I've been taking it for 13 years and never gotten TD from it.

Got it from Geodon. Dr says it rules out using ap's in the future.

Zyprexa, you're saying zyprexa worked when other AP's failed? What others failed, if you don't mind me asking?

Have you tried saphris?

And Markwell, have you tried an maoi yet?

I had akansesia (sp?), that remitting
twitching from abilify and seroquel. Not TD.

I've taken zyprexa, abilify, geodon, perphenazine and risperdal. The 2 that are working are zyprexa and perphenazine.
