Posted by tepi on May 17, 2011, at 20:18:58

I wonder if you can help with some feeback about the efficacy of lyrica compared to Neurontin.
I mean , Lyrica its a newer med ... Do you think lyrica its a better drug? wich one would you choose?

Regarding the side effects of Neurontin, Im getting horrible weigth gain , no matter if I work out every day or I follow a Diet , Im getting very very fat
My memory gone, believe me , its gone, I have no pass , only present and future and I cant remember anything.

Have you heard if lyrica migth help without these problems?

Won't Lyrica be worse, because it is stronger?

Having said that, I have no experience of it.

I noticed weight gain on Neurontin too.

What we really need is a drug to get rid of the future as well as the past.

And I don't know Tep...........Neurontin is an anti-convulsant and might be hard to stop.

I wish it were possible for you to get by on less of it. That is a big dose.

You mean that it is difficult to stop taking antincovulsants? oh no , I didnt think of that.
I just started taking it and thats all. I took in the past another anticonvulsant together with Nardil (Epival) but it didnt work , so I dropped it . I dont remember having withdrawals problems with it. Oh no Oh no
Maybe Im gonna try lyrica Sig

I took Lyrical for around 12 months but found it mostly ineffective for my GAD and panic disorder. It had some effect to start with but this did fade after a short period of time. I ended up taking 600mg per day.

I didn't notice any weight gain while taking it, although I did experience strange and vivid dreams. I also did get some forgetfulness but nothing as severe as your experience by the sound of it! I also didn't experience any problems withdrawing from it (my doc tapered the dose).

I don't think I'd try it again as it just wasn't effective for me.

Hi tepi,

I've mentioned that I haven't tried neurontin, but I did a trial of lyrica.

The effects on my thinking, behavior, and, motor functioning were very negative. This is my own experience, right? Still, I do want to share it with you.

I trialed it for pain. Yes, I did less xanax. But my doctors said I was slurring my words. This was on a low dose, too. One asked if I was intoxicated. As a person
with SA, I found that particularly mortifying. (I don't drink or smoke.) I tried it for six weeks. My driving ability was impaired, too.

Please be careful if you switch. I don't think lyrica is equal but stronger. So if
you trial, just be alert, o.k.?

I wish I could offer you more optimistic words about Lyrica. Maybe someone here has had a better experience?

Have you ever tried askapatient.com? Could be worthwhile Googling it to see if there are positive reports.

I wish you well.

I read of someone on Lyrica who pulled the car up at a stop sign and waited for it to change colour.

Some kind of category error.

Hi FB.

Did you experience the negative effects of Lyrica, even after you discontinued it?

Both Neurontin and Lyrica really screw me up while I take them. What's more is that the negative effects persist for at least three weeks after discontinuation.

Yes, very much so that at the time, I thought there might have been damage, but then, when I discontinued, I went to no medication at all. Looking back, I would agree, or even say a month.

Judging by this, our exchange here, I would decline a neurontin trial.

That's a very logical decision. Of the available AEDs, only Neurontin and Lyrica block the alpha2delta subunit of the calcium channel. I believe that this is the mechanism by which these drugs screw me up.
