Stopped provigil

Posted by markwell on May 10, 2011, at 12:06:29

I stopped taking the provigil I was taking for depression as it was making me anxious. My pdoc thinks it's my anxiety and depression's side effects that is the problem, which I tend to agree with. Benzos add to my depression so what to use for anxiety is a real dilemma. Just keeping u updated but if u have a suggestion I would appreciate that also.

Seems like stopping was the answer. Well when you say benzos depress you have you been on them all as klonopin caused suicidal thoughts in me when wasn't suicidal but xanax one dose and stopping klonopin instantly changed that back to good have you tried xanax greenstone generic brand as really the namebrand marketed same company? I just don't feel antipsychoics after my brief experience with them are worth the risks. Not being able to assess you anxiety are natural supplements even an option? Just asking. Phillipa

I tried Xanax once, can it increase depression? I don't know about the naturals. I'm currently taking magnesium which is supposed to help but not helping so far.

If benzos work for you and your doctor is cool with xanax (not all of them are...), then maybe xanax? There's a CR or XR version out there that should reduce the risk of between dose anxiety and dosage escalation. I think its generic. Xanax has mild antidepressant effects; I don't know if those effects are present at low doses, but at the very least I would think it wouldn't add to depression/induce depression as much as, say, Klonopin.

Markwell I also take magnesium nada for anxiety. And as CE stated has a slight ad property. I still take a low dose. It worked so wonderfully for me for over 30 years and no ad. Phillipa

Yes, Markwell, did you discuss the gabapentin w/your doc? Just curious. I appreciate the update.

I see my dr next week and I will mention it. I really liked the anti anxiety I got from paxil but that stopped working for me.

Keep us posted. I felt relief after stopping provigil, but life can be difficult w/out an alerting agent for those of us with fatigue. Good luck.

If SSRIs arent helpful you may have to resort to mood stabilizers or AAPs.
Old school TCAs might be helpful too if you can manage the side effects.

Markwell, that is a very timely question. Right now, nothing. It has been awful, because I have chronic fatigue but not full-on cfs (thank the stars). I have recently been dx'd with fibromyalgia. Guess it says so in my signature.

So yeah. Good question. I have one week of emsam under my belt, and it is helping me immensely. Read that as still
sub-normal, but it is making a difference. I am out of bed.

Physically, I don't feel able to bear anymore dexedrine, but it's not contraindicated. I could try Wellbutrin again. I don't really know. I'm thinking this through.

Have you tried an maoi? I'll reread your thread. Parnate is rated as most stimulating. It takes more vigilance to use, but if it isn't contraindicated for you? But I have no experience with it other than seeing some respond well.

What are you thinking? I mean coffee only goes so far :(

Provigil used to make me feel very jittery.

Beta blockers were the answer for me, they worked much better than benzos in this case. Using either atenolol or propranolol along with the Provigil has allowed me to tolerate it really well (and coffee too, for that matteR).

If your anxiety is physical (palpitations etc) maybe you could consider this class of meds.

In fact, the b-blockers have worked so well that I might revisit Wellbutrin, which worked wonders for my depression but caused killer day-long anxiety.
