Tachycardia after big meal

Posted by Deneb on May 6, 2011, at 1:34:49

OK, my heart just started beating fast after eating a whole bunch of junk food (burger, chips and a giant chocolate bar). I'm kind of scared. This can't be good right?

I have to start eating healthy or else I'm going to have diabetes, a heart attack or stroke or something!

Just took a propranolol. I hope that helps.

This is normal after having a big meal or one that raises blood sugar.

It takes more blood shunted toward the GI tract in order to digest food. Also for the liver to process sugar.

If your heart rate exceeds 120, I would be concerned.

Stay away from excess sugar and refined carbohydrates.

It sounds like a blood sugar issue. Which is common probably due to the horrible way we choose our foods. Yes you are correct...your food choices have to change. That is, unless you like to suffer weird things that get worse over the years.

Not hard. You can still have the junk food. But only once in a while and only when combined with the right foods. All the rest of the diet needs to be filled with stuff God intended for us, not stuff man created for profit.

Plants are powerful medicines, disease preventers, disease reversers, and disease reducers. That includes strategic choices in the grocery cart. We don't tend to think of foods as medicines, but they can be when combined properly.

It would be wise, I think, to ask your doctor for a blood sugar workup....that is, morning urine after fasting compared to urine a couple hours after drinking a special sweet drink they give you at the lab. Supplements helpful include chromium and cinnamon in pharmaceutical doses.

But of course everything I've said is based on the assumption of a blood sugar issue. I could be wrong. It might be something else. I can't think of anything else. You should discuss it with your doctor.

It sounds like you have free floating anxiety going on that is searching for something to worry about like a police patrol gone wrong. I hope the propranolol was helpful. If not, some other kind of anxiety agent is probably worth pursuing.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I think I'm just worrying for nothing because pdoc has already ruled out heart problems. I got an EKG and I had sinus tachycardia, but it's not all the time. It's just anxiety.

Anyways, I've decided to lower the glycemic index of my foods drastically. Instead of eating rice I'm eating barley now. I've discovered that barley is a low GI food. I eat the barley with some meat like turkey. I eat fruit like oranges and strawberries. I'm going to limit eating junk food to like once a month or something.

I'm going to lose weight once and for all and get healthy. Pdoc would be proud!
