zoloft making my anxiety worse, 2 wks@ 50mg no 100

Posted by torridcalm on May 4, 2011, at 14:55:07

I don't know what to do give up on zoloft or stick it out. I'm planning to stickit out for another 2 weeks going from 50mg to 100mg, doc has given me klonipin and temazapam for my second 2 weeks at the higher dose. Anyone please tell me what you think. I'm on concerta wich loweres the intensity of anxiety until rebound, wellbutrin has been a big success. cytomel and synthroid. Antihistimines don't interfear with my sleep wich the doc finds strange, do I have an inverse reaction to zoloft? not asking for someone to tell me what to do just do a little brainstorming with me. please if you would be so kind to take a minute to respone..thanks

It looks like that you are at a crossroad. You have deceided to take the road of sticking it out for another 2 weeks.
But have you considerd that if you go that road for two more weeks that you might not be able to get back?

Hi welcome to babble cytomel can increase anxiety how long have you been on it? Also any caffeine products can increase anxiety. Some say zoloft is activating and others have the opposite effect. Phillipa

lou what do you mean "get back", maybe you see a possible outcome that I havn't considered. I've read lots of anicdotal stuff about start up anxiety but it paying off when the zoloft kicks in, but anxiety is a possible side effect of zoloft and all SSRI's. I'm certain my intence anxiety is from the zoloft. I read 10% of people it has inverse reaction. If it wasn't for all the anicdotal stuff I'd have quit zoloft. Doing my best with the spelling

I'm getting confused, thought I responded to your post but I don't see it in thread. Been on cytomel for about a year and it helped me. on synthroid 10 years but started feeling funny, kind of foggy in my head. adding the cytomel took that funny feeling away and my colesteroil went doen huge drop. Doing my best with spelling

I'm on concerta and wellbutrin too and the concerta lessens the intensity of the anxiety. when I'm desperate I take SAM-e and that pops me out of depression with in hours. I'm wondering if the wellbutrin has pooped out, but now is not the time for a drug holliday. Well if anyone has any more thoughts please share them with me. (10 years on a SSRI with out discontinuing, or holiday as my doc call it, to asess if treatment was still indicated?)

tc,
You wrote,[...maybe you see a possible outcome that I havn't considered...I'm certain my intence anxiety is from Zoloft...if it wasn't for..I'd had quit zoloft...].
The road that you are on now could lead to your death or that you could have a life-ruining condition from psychotropic drugs.
The FDA now agrees that there is a list of psychotropic drugs that could have the potential to induce a mind-altered state in the one taking the drug(s) to compel them to want to kill themselves and/or others. You can see if the drug(s) that you are taking are in the list or look for a {black box} warning. Is not that the longer one is on the road of taking psychotropic drugs, the more chance there is of being dead from them? Last year it is estimiated that 42,000 people died from psychotropic drugs in one way or another. This figure may be only in the U.S. If so, then by interpolation, arouund 500,000 people in the world died last year from these drugs. This means that going forward, millions of people could die from these drugs.
Zoloft is a type of benzodiazepine. I am prohibited by the owner of this site from posting here about the aspects of {nerve agents} in relation to their development in a particular historical period and by who and for what purpose. I am also prohibited to post here where you can find this information. I think that if you could know this information, that you could make a better assessment of your situation to make the decision as to take these drugs or not for the next two weeks as you have posted here.
Here is a video that I think could go a long way in helping people make a decision as to take mind-altering psychiattric drugs or not.

The correction is that it is Zyprexa that is a type of benzodiazepine. I sometimes get Zyprexa mixed up with Zoloft.

I hope Lou doesn't scare you too much. He is certainly entitled to his opinions, but his is not the majority on this site, nor the world at large.

One question, have you been on another ssri for 10+ years? I am confused from your posts exactly what you are taking now and what you have taken in the past.

Assuming this is your first go at an SSRI then you should know that SSRI's are known for possibly causing some pretty intense start up anxiety. I was a mess for a week or two when I started up on lexapro.

One current theory is that by increasing the synaptic seretonin levels you overload the post-synaptic receptors....this causes initial anxiety. Over the course of a few weeks the body adjusts the response of the post-synaptic neuron and this adjustment is what triggers the anxiety relief.

My advice would be to give it a little more time, but I don't think I would go up to 100mg just yet. I so hope you feel better. We all deserve to feel our best.

I do not think you are having an inverse reaction to Zoloft. I have a severe anxiety disorder. I tried to take Zoloft a few years ago. It was extremely activating. I only made it about ten days. It was more activating than most of the SSRIs I have taken (Paxil, Lexapro, Celexa, Luvox, Prozac).
