Posted by tepi on January 23, 2011, at 16:54:51

Hi guys
I tried and Im still on Neurontin for my Social phobia . I took 300mg/day and sometimes 600mg/day. I also take Xanax 2mg /day.
This neuronthing its a very strong medicine, I felt very confused . However I think it helped me in some way to improve my social skills and better mood
Im still on it because in some way it helps me, I know , I feel it , but I also know Icant stand it

Do you believe it would be good to try another anticonsultant after leaving neurontin? Have you hear good new from any other antocunvulsant to treat anxiery and Social Phobia. Pls Help . Tepi

First. You need to be on an SSRI or TCA or some kind of antidepressant that has indicatiosns for social anxiety. An anticonvulsant should be used only to augment treatment with an AD. Keppra, Gabapentin, Lyrica, Gabitril, Topemax and Benzodiazapines have all shown efficacy in treating anxiety.

15 years on meds . I have been on almost every med on the market . What ive been noticing lately is that med that didnt do anything in the past have a different reaction on me in this moment, like if my brain were changed and were more vulnerable to meds

Hi Tepi--I was first on Neurontin for pain & sleep related issues. I was also on Lamictal for a year which was not helpful enough.

About a year ago, Trileptal was slowly added and Lamictal slowly removed. It's worked super well(my issues are different...but the concept here is 2 different anti-C meds, right :))

I did try to remove the Neurontin lately---I felt it was dulling me down. I then had a resurgence of anxiety, racing thoughts, etc. So I'm back on it at a lower dose, and for now, doing better.

Tepi---what effect "can't you stand"? for me it was mental dullness, lethargy. Some of those are dose related imo.

It's worth a try, mingling 2 AC but at lower doses for each....titrating slowly to get a good effect has worked best for me.

Hope you are having a good day,

SC
