What to do... scared of being honest with pdoc

Posted by zonked on January 3, 2011, at 13:03:51

Hi,

Since my MD hasn't given me dexedrine, I have done what I had to on my own, and instead of taking 90 mg of parnate, I take about 160 in two doses. I am terrified to tell him this. I don't want him to dc it or aquire a reputation as one who ignores his doc. The dose I am prescribed does not work.

Something needs to be done though. If I go to a new doc he'll want records and be suspicious if I refuse to sign them over. Can anyone relate?

I guess first is it now working cause if is maybe the doc will understand and let you stick with this dose. If not no idea. But honesty is the best policy. I feel guilty if don't tell the truth. Phillipa

It can be so hard to bring honesty into the doctor's practice. You can be assured that you won't be telling your doctor anything he hasn't heard or, more importantly, needs to hear from you :-)

I can make a couple of suggestions:

Write your notes out beforehand of what you plan to tell him, i.e., what you've been prescribed versus what you need to take to be effective.

Have a trusted member of your family or a close friend who knows what's going on accompany you.

I think that the role of shame in the doctor-patient relationship, once it is dealt with and is out in the open, can lead to a much better therapeutic treatment plan for you. If, on the other hand, you fear recriminations and maybe getting tossed from the practice (which I rather doubt will happen), then I suggest that you're not seeing the right doctor.

Just curious, but where are you getting the extra parnate from?

Hi, I am terrified for you! Not because you have to tell your doctor, but because you are taking 160 mg of Parnate!!! I can understand if 90 mg wasn't enough. But how did you get up to 160 mg ???? I really hope that you will discuss this with your doctor because was you are doing is really dangerous. I am surprised that you haven't suffered any ill effects. I take 100 mg Parnate and I can't imagine bumping it up to 160 mg. Are you able to sleep on that dosage?

Please be honest with your doctor. I am sure that together you can figure something out. Best of luck to you.
