Started Desipramine

Posted by Maxime on December 25, 2010, at 22:41:27

I started Desprimine two days ago. I really hope it helps with my depression. I am on a 100 mg. I haven't had any side effects. The pills are bright Irish green, so even if they don't work they have livened up the look of my cocktail. ;)

Hello Maxie,

I really hope it helps you :) Keep us up-to-date.

Do take care and don't eat anymore 'wrong foods' with your Parnate though. It's just not worth the risk. Be careful!

I hope it helps, Maxime. Does it help some people with body pain? That would be bonus time :)

I think youll like desipramine if theres any fibro symptoms that go with your depression.
I found that desipramine was great for my body pain and energy levels.
At 100mg and up it made me a bit nervous and edgy.
I found that taking it at night helped with keeping the headaches at bay. It messes with my blood pressure and the ups and downs were giving me nasty headaches.
If you have allergies youll like it also.. It helps with the aches and the NRI action eases sinus congestion a little.
For the depression.. for me its not the whole solution I still need some serotonin. =(

Thank you so much for your post. Yes, I have very bad fibro symptoms that come with the depression.
I take it in the morning because I assumed that it would give me some energy. Although my pdoc prescribed 50 mg twice a day. Maybe I will try that.

What type of headaches were you getting and are they under control now?

How long until it 'kicks in' as they say?

A split dose could be a good idea.

Keep us posted :)

I guess it could take up to 3 weeks to kick in. I think I will try a split dose starting tomorrow.

I really hope it works without all the side effects that came with the Nortrip.

Will keep you posted!

I hope this works well for you... keep us posted. I'm curious about TCAs so will keep an eye on this thread.

Oh, and green is my favorite color, so I do like green pills (over other colors). My Prozac was green, back when I took Prozac :)

No sign of the med lessening my depression, but it's too early for that. However, it is already helping with the pain all over my body. I hope it continues to do that.

I am really sensitive to changes in blood pressure and when I took desipramine it raised it a bit. It was usually right after I took it that it peaked. so I needed to take it and immediately go to sleep to avoid that.
I really miss the analgesic effects. I have found that properly treating the depression resolves the fibro pain indirectly.. not treating the symptom but the source.
I would never have believed my pain and fatigue could come from depression if I hadnt experienced it, just never have had it happen before.

Good luck,

What made you choose this medication over imipramine?

Creepy,

What are you taking now? Have you found something else that helps?

Probably that she is on an MAOI, and only wants to increase norepinephrine, because there might be a risk of serotonin syndrome with an imipramine + parnate combo.

Me neither. It's weird that I never had it before after decades of depression. Do you still take the Desipramine?

I forgot about that. Imipramine is one TCA that you can't take with an MAOI.

Nope, my doc took me off of it due to 'weight gain'. I was not happy about that decision I think it was BS.

Oh no, I was hoping that Desipramine wouldn't make me gain weight. That is why I switched from Notrriptaline to Desipramine.

Hi FB, well, I am doing better now that the holidays have almost ended. Once again, I came out alive. I don't think I did anything on Friday. Sh*t, I can't even remember and it was only yesterday! Oh, I remember now. I spent the day in bed, hiding from the world. I had my flannel PJs on, flannel sheets and my electric blanket. I had crying spells which were not fun, but to be expected. I think I got up around 4 pm or so.

I go back to work on the 5th.

Thanks for asking!

Maxime, :-)

Any relief pain-wise? Doesn't sound like it mood-wise. I'm sorry. I guess it takes awhile?

Yes, there has been some pain relief for sure. I still really hurt in my back and hips. Hopefully the Desipramine will help with that as well. But that overall feeling of having a bad flu where everything aches is gone! YAY!!!!
