Something ligth to replace a benzo/MAOI anxiety

Posted by tepi on November 4, 2010, at 22:39:13

I dont know , maybe I dont need so strongs drugs as Nardil or others AD . I have been off Nardil for almost 4 months and I dont feel that bad in terms of depression
My big big problem , the problem tha has been here with me for almost 16 years is this social fear .
I was not taking the alcohol as an option , but I belive im getting to my limit point
what do you think ? Im only taking 2mg of Xanax per day and no other drug

I dont want the alcohol to be my solution.. do you any suggestions please?
Another drug? Maybe a natural remedy , anything that I could use with or without my benzo...
Maybe its time to start taking all that natural stuff that is out there.. wat do you think?
what meds do you recomend me??

Please help
Tepi

How do you feel social wise taking your Xanax everyday? Does it help you socially, or do you take it for panic? Be more specific.

How often do you socialise Tepi? I think social anxiety tends to decrease as you gain more experience of social situations. After a while you may start to enjoy it.

Hey Tepi

I don't know which country you reside but here in Britain there's a herbal product on the market called Kalms. It can help anxiety - but i find i need three times the standard dose before it has any effect. I'm not suggesting you take such a dose, but you could try each seperate ingredient. Valerian and hops appear to be the main effective herbs. They dont have a really strong effect - it's more subtle. Very few side effects, if any, too. I've also just started tumeric tablets, to see if they have any effect as i have read that they are a natural alternative to MAOIs. I would guess the effect is only mild but i still want to give it a try. Maybe an option for you too...?

It helps me a little bit to diminish my fear with people. However I still suffer a lot from this, it doesnt help me that much. I also have no desire to socialeze

No these are not panics attacks , this is always here with me , since I open my eyes until I close them every day

I think Phillipa thought you seemed better because your depression is under control. What she failed to notice is that you still drink a lot to get you through the day. Therefore, imho, you are no better off than you were before and I am worried about your dependency on alcohol. How much do you drink in a day and are you combining any meds with it? Do you drink because it makes you feel less anxious? Alcohol is a depressant so you should really avoid it among other reasons. But I can understand how addictive it is and that you are using it to self medicate.

All sort ed , even if I dont talk with anybody ,Im feeling that all the time everybody is staring at me , thinking things about me, no matter if they are bad or good , that is so anoying . My brain is busy thinking what other people may be thinking about me . I cant focus , I have fear... every single word I say kills me as if I was saying something wrong , its very difficult to explain... My brain does not rest at any hour of the day...

Yes yes Im worried too Maxime. I dont drink alcohol during the day while Im in my job. I just arrive home and then I drink 2 o 3 cups of wine and then I start to feel better.Prosocial , selfconfident. I do this with my stomach empty so the alcohol can enter my bloodstream faster
I have thougth of using it during the day too , but just to think about it it makes me so nervous because I know thats not a real solution
But then I think , what else can I do?

When did you last try one of the more common treatments for social phobia eg. Lexapro?

Well, you need to find some better ways to cope. It won't necessarily come in the form of a pill. Although the alternative meds that Link suggested sound like a good start.

Just promise me that you won't mix your benzo with alcohol. I worry about you.

I already bougth a Bottle of Gotu Kola pills
I have no idea how much time Im supposed to wait to feel any change. I also dont know how much dose I should start but what the hell , I already took my first pill and Im researching all I can on the net
So im taking Xanax and Gotu Kola. I dont lose anything , lets see what happen , maybe nothing but it worst not to try anything
I really dont know If im gonna be able to stop my alcohol intake during the nights... that is very scary. I couldnt drink anything in this moment because the stores dont sell alcohol after 6PM . So Im clean. I will try not do it during the next week
How much gotu Kola do you suggest me? I read that when combining it with a Benzo it makes you feel more somnolent..
Thank Link,Maxi, phillipa , ed and everybody here

You have a great attitude! You are right, you have nothing to lose by trying it. I think Link should be able to answer your dosage question about the gotu Kola. My knowledge of alternative meds is not what it should be.

Please keep us updated, okay?

I will be thinking of you - positive thoughts only.
