Consistent mood changes during then day

Posted by alchemy on October 26, 2010, at 14:43:17

sorry to add another post on this subject.
some have a worsening of mood of the circadian rhythm in the:
- morning - afternoon - evening

Has anyone had success with adjusting their sleep schedule, even with a one or two day alteration?

Currently, mine starts to decline around noon-ish?

But on the other hand, I went through a phase with always waking up with extreme anxiety at 5:30- no matter what time I went to bed!

I am still interested in trying Valdoxan (agomelatine) that Ron suggested.

I too have the problem of waking too early and not being able to get back to sleep.

You don't really want to take a sedative at 5:30 in the morning.

One thing I have found which helps is taking ritalin. Yes, I know it makes no sense, but if I take about 2mg of ritalin, the anxiety goes and I fall back to sleep. Wierd huh?

Adrenal exhaustion, adrenal insufficiency, hypoadrenalism....usually a temporary condition that will slowly resolve when the offending factors are removed. If the potential offenders are not dealt with, it will stay the same or worsen. Offenders include food choices, stress, overdoing it, inconsistent sleep schedules, medications, chronic infections, and metal toxicity (lead, aluminum, mercury).

The raciness is the adrenals bouncing back too hard. The sluggishness after noon is them pooping out.

This is unsuspected and undiagnosed with most people, but is easily and cheaply confirmed with a 24 hour 4-sample saliva or blood cortisol test.

This comes on slowly over time, and heals the same way. It takes time and purposeful effort to regain adrenal stability. You
might consider studying up on it and begin some changes.

Common treatments include eleuthero root (siberian ginseng), isocort, adrenal extracts, stephania root powder, and when those fail to provide enough support hydrocortison dosed at 2.5mg to 20mg per day for about a year. But it will never resolve completely without determined lifestyle changes. Treatment is longterm. If you think antidepressants are slow, this is even slower. It took a long time to get to the diseased state, and will take some time to reverse it.

Of course it could be something else. It's just that your description is classic. Very easy to recognize when you know what you're looking for, and everyone's descriptions of it are almost exactly the same.

Ya, that's weird. I don't remember if you have any bipolar cycling probs. If so, do you think the ritalin contributes?

(my 5:30 anxiety was a couple years ago)

One of the things I am trying to figure out is if this is also related to being on dexadrine. The late morning and afternoon dips are getting much more frequent & sudden - however, this increase did seem to happen when I recently went on a Pristiq trial and eliminating 40mg Celexa. This is the main reason I went off of the Pristiq and returned to Celexa, but only 20mg. I went down on Celexa because of the rapid cycling thing.

Maybe because my body is already retarded & sensitive. This SSRI & SNRI trial may have messed me up even more. Or maybe I should see what happens if I go back up on Celexa.

aclhemy,

I have the same problem.
Have been trying to figure out what is causing it.

From when I wake up until about 12 oclock I feel good. From there it is down hill, I feel the worst at about 3:00 and then it slowly gets better.

Its not just a mood change either, its my entire perception and I look physically different, red 'stoned looking eyes' etc...

I am on Pristiq, Lactimal and Zyprexa.

Still trying to find the culperate.

That's almost similar to what has been going on lately. I think it became more pronounced & daily when I recently when I did a "switch-around" trial from Celexa to Pristiq. I went back on Celexa (but a lower dose). I know serotonin is involved with circadian cycles so that is my best guess on this recent change.

But it has been an occasional problem before. Plus I have all the other ultra-rapid stuff.

Dang it, I just too a Provigil. I haven't taken one forever & now I'm sleepy.

Anyway, did you notice any pattern/changes with any of your meds?

It's incredibly frustrating isn't it.

I believe that it is either Zyprexa or Lactimal causing it because I have never experienced anything like this before these meds.

I am getting some blood tests to screen for hypo/hyper glycemia, cortisol levels etc.. which I am hoping will shed some light on it.

The symptoms really match up to hypoglycemia. Both lactimal and Zyprexa can cause this as a side effect.

But who knows.. trying to narrow something like this down is impossible just browsing the internet so I will let you know how the tests go.

What are your theories on it?

I do have sugar issues (feel crappy after). I took the test thinking they would look at my levels right after drinking the sugar stuff, but they don't. However, it did show that I was hypoglycemic.
I have tried to see if there is a correlation between my eating and my mood. I haven't found a real connection yet.
I also had a cortisol test a while ago & was suprised it was normal. I thought that might be the reason I was 2x more sensitive to sweet stuff in the morning.

So....who the heck knows. You will have to let me know how your tests come out.

I just think all of my systems are screwed up. Female hormones don't help.
