What if I find the root cause of my disease?

Posted by tepi on September 26, 2010, at 15:00:23

What if I magically found the root cause of my social anxiety , fearrr , depression and all the things I have
In what way that would help me?
I can go to a Doc and try to find out this and then what? Ive have think all my life the root cause But i didnt suffer anything wrong like if someone g hit me when I was kid or something like that... everything seems to be normal ... I always had good grades ... this started so surprisingly I didnt notice I was ill. I started to avoid my good friends , to think they didnt like me , and more stuff , I was very social , i had a lot of friends , then this thing came I dont know where it came from. I know is genetic because my mom also suffers depression but she doesnt have fear to people its different, mine its like her disease empowered 5 times
I declare myself uncapable to live a life.. im just a puppet , this disease controls me, I dont have control of me

If you find the root cause, then you will have a clear plan on how to deal with it. With such a vague description as "depression", that's hard to do. Finding the root cause won't happen magically though. It takes detective work....ruling things in or out one at a time. It requires insisting on tests the doctor doesn't think you need. It requires ignoring test results and trying things anyway because tests can frequently be misleading or flat out wrong.

The bright side is, the issues that need to be explored in detective work are limited, not overwhelming. And they're all simple, cheap, and relatively quick.

If you declare the disease has control of you, then it will. If you declare it won't, then it won't. Indeed it can limit and burden every moment of your day, but you are still the boss. I see it as an enemy wanting to stop everything I might do. I'm sorry, but I don't let enemies win without a serious fight. It's the fight itself, and the detective work, that actually strengthens you against the enemy and keeps the hole from being dug deeper. It provides a tunnel with a light at the end. Declaring the disease is in complete control is the same as an endless dark tunnel with no light to ever be at the other end.

You will get better. Believe it.
