Interpretation of MRI images is a very specialist area. I think you will have to wait for the radiologists assessment.

Last night I googled interpreting MRI's and they give detailed instructions. I know gray areas mean tumors. The myeline sp? sheaths are something to look at also. Since the lst and 7ths cranial nerves are involved with taste and smell that's another area. Link I don't want holes. Last one I had said normal for age. Now what does that tell you nothing. I know the specialists at Wake Forrest and in DC when saw them said was due to a virus that attacked neurons in nose and treatment was prednisone for two weeks which I did and the theophilline 300mg a day. I didn't do the theophylline. Made no sense since for breathing disorders which I don't have. I need to look for sinus enlargement and polphs also. Should be able to see that with the physical part of the exam. Someone wrote me it's got to do with dopamine. Makes sense as the pleasure med. Phillipa

Try to be patient. It takes years of study to be able to interpret the finer details of scans. Sorry not to be of more help PJ.

I totally agree Ed. You can't learn how to read an MRI off the internet ... well, I guess you can learn some stuff. You don't want misinterpret your "reading" and get into a panic.

I hope you see your doctor soon so that you get the results as quickly as possible.

I am glad you will find out soon. I know what you mean about something being wrong because it will explain the problems that you are experiencing. You want answers, not more questions.

I guess I have a scientific mind cause I know something is wrong and I need to see it. I just don't buy the virus destroying neurons in nose what a cop out on docs parts as never even had a cold. Theory of mine is the lasix somehow penetrated the neurons and might have burned them out? Lasix is new so who knows. Not that this would show up. There must be a study. Phillipa

Scientific mind or not, most people WANT to see what is wrong with them.

What if the MRI shows nothing? What is the next step?

So let's assume your MRI shows something wrong. Then what? It still doesn't do much to help you figure out why it went wrong or how to fix it.

Example. Someone with neurological/psychiatric symptoms gets an MRI. The scan shows lesions consistent with MS. So now they are put on MS drugs. Which are not curative...they don't fix the problem, only reduce symptoms or delay progression. And med choice is purely a guessing game with considerable risk.

I guess it is comforting to at least see the problem on a graph. I would like that.

Here's the thing though. There are plenty of cases of MS that began an antibiotic for some other unrelated reason. They Herxed, and then symptoms improved, and some even went into remission. Followup scans showed the initial MS lesions were disappearing or gone. It wasn't MS at all....it was Lyme the whole time!

So even with the detailed imaging and an expert interpreter, the diagnosis can be completely wrong. In the above cases, being put on immune system dampening drugs common to MS would be the totally wrong thing to do unless antibiotics were given along with it. MS treatment would actually strengthen and enforce the underlying disease.

I'm just using the MS example to illustrate.

I think an MRI can be helpful but needs to be kept in perspective....it is only one variable to be included in an overall clinical evaluation where symptoms and history take heavier bearing. All angles have to be considered, not just any single angle. They all tie together to paint the true picture.

I agree. Hopefully Phillipa's MRI will show something that can fixed, and is not masking another problem. I remember how good I felt when I was diagnosed with MS. I would go to doctors and they told me it was stress or that I was faking the systom (at first I would only get one symptom at a time). It was only once I temporarily lost vision in my left eye that doctors started to use the MS words. I have been very very luckly. I don't have the progressive form. I haven't had an attack in a few years but I do have problems with balance at times and I think my depression may be partly from the MS.

Had one before which ruled out MS along with spinal tap. If the microadenoma is larger it can be fixed if not acceptance. Phillipa ps just read synthoid can loss of taste and smell but the bioidentical armour doesn't so that's a possibility since already use a compounding RX for bioidentical hormones.

>Just read synthoid can loss of taste and smell but the bioidentical armour doesn't

I think that sounds very dubious. I do not see why Synthroid would cause loss of smell.

Armour thyroid is a dried extract from pigs thyroid glands. Synthroid and Armour both contain T4, which is a natural hormone. Armour also contains T3, but the ratio of T3 to T4 in Armour is probably excessive. Synthroid (levothyroxine ie. T4) is a bioidentical hormone. Armour is no more bioidentical than Synthroid. Armour is more variable and may make it difficult to stabilise thyroid function.

Given what you have said here....all of which I did not previously know...LDN should be at the top of your list. No matter what else you do, LDN should be a longtime companion.
