Does anyone know why nortriptylene might stop you from having a crash from vyvanse? I had taken vyvanse in the past on its own and had a dark crash, then tried it again recently on its own and had again another crash. Then I started notriptylene and was so tired and trying to keep up with my little one, and decided to try again took a vyvanse and no crash! Two weeks without any crashes the entire time and felt better than I have in so long! I felt great! The vyvanse made such a difference to my mood if I took it one day, not the next. Then I had an unfortunate reaction to upping the nortripylene and was told to stop, so am off both now. I am horribly depressed and in a fog, and trying to take care of my baby exhausted and in tears. I want to start another med that may have the same effect on the vyvanse and preventing the crash, but have no idea what it could have been - affected the other neurotransmitters? Does anyone have any idea, any similar experiences? I doubt she will want to try another tricyclic because of my reaction, so am desperately searching for an answer so that I can get back to what I was for the last two weeks, and feel awful for my little one seeing his mom in tears, a horrible mom in comparison to what I've been!!!!!

You are not a horrible mom.

Have you tried the following:
Adderall
Provigil
Ritaline
Dexedrine

Maybe they will work better for you.

vyvanse and crashing without nortriptylene

Thank you all and you're right, I should repost. That was kind of embarrassing! Anyway, I did try all the stim meds, but always crashed and for some reason with the nortriptylene, I didn't crash! If doctors don't know about this, they should - it could help a lot of people! Stim meds made me into a better me (I know all the bad literature about them, and only want to take them short term) because it was helping me out of not just the fog, but helping me with my social anxiety to get back out there with my baby and meet other new moms. I feel if I can take them again, I can get over my hump. But I crashed without the nortriptylene and don't know why! If I knew why, or if I could replicate that with another med, I would feel hopeful again! Anyway, thanks so much. If I ever find out anything, I'll post here in case it helps anyone else. I hope it's not just nortriptylene that stops the crashes since I reacted badly to it when upping it. The chemistry of it all is beyond me, but I wish I could figure it out! Thanks, Cydnie

hi there..
what I just wanted to add..
do I get it right that you suffer from post-partum depression? you know, scientists at a Belgian university recently found out (don't ask me why they only did so now) that PP depression is directly caused by too rapid monoamine oxidase.. so, the logical thing, if other meds aren't working, would be to go on an MAOI.. possibly starting with moclobemide if it's available where you are at. that would seem like a better solution than stimulants, because it would treat (more) directly the issues that are causing your depression.
have you ever considered trying them, or have you maybe already had them?
