Dopaminergic A/D or combo? Anyone?

Posted by jade k on July 13, 2010, at 14:42:25

History:

I got up to 80mg parnate and 40mg dexedrine, nixed the dexedrine, and subsequently had to stop the Parnate. It was a bummer cause I was in full remission for a while.

I'm currently trying to recreate this a/d effect. I know I'm low on dopamine. I responded to Parnate (don't know how much of that was due to the stim factor), stims: ritalin, dexedrine (not provigil), (not Wellbutrin, don't know why).

Stims only do so much, and I don't abuse.
SSRI's or anything serotonin makes me ill.
Aap's make me anxious. Lamictal, lithium, no good.

I also take small amount of clonazapam for nerve pain, and have reduced as far as I can without headaches. I want to discontinue. Could I cross taper clon with xanax? (xanax has some a/d effect I read). I do really well on dexedrine, but I think I need to find a "true" a/d to go with it, not sure.

hey!

why did you have to stop parnate? because I think that scott mentioned the theoretical possibility to combine parnate + methylphenidate.. at first it seems like a mad combination, but since MTP is not (or only very little, through indirect action) serotonergic, these two could "coexist peacefully"..

or what's with the two other MAOIs available in the US? assuming that that's where you from..
one of them plus something else?...

I think that, while mirtazapine was thought to act on 5HT/NE, it now seems that it is more NE/DA, but I do not think that it can be effective where 80mg parnate, or stims, weren't..

but do wait for some more competent answers.. trying xanax seems to be a good idea to me though, it doesn't touch serotonine and won't make you anxious, and cross-tapering benzo with benzo shouldn't be a problem, I think..

I hope you'll find the right one(s) soon..
byebye!

Re: Nardil plus dexedrine?

I hear Nardil causes fatigue. I have enough of that. Would dexedrine be a good augment to Nardil, and is Nardil as dopaminergic as Parnate?

Thnx

Hi er,

I stopped parnate because at an effective dose (80mg) it was too much for my brain! I've actually wondered about adding a small amount of an aap, I would need to check with my pdoc. I don't know of anyone else that had a problem at that dose so I think I'm in the minority.

Yeah, I posted about Nardil (plus stim for fatigue). Maybe a possibility.

As for mirtazapine, I'm having trouble finding reliable info regarding its dopamine/serotonin properties. Seems unclear to me.

Might try xanax, we'll see...

Thanks for the reply!

Seriously still on xanax and it does have slight ad effect but you need greenstone generic or the real brand name. Greenstone is same maker as brand and a long time ago a pharmacist said to not waste money on brand when greenstone was identical and it sure seems to be. Others here have also said same. Thanx for the tip, if my pdoc prescribes it I'll keep that in mind.

What do you mean, "it was too much for my brain?" Just curious. 80mg is a high dose. My insurance company wouldn't even approve a 60mg/day dose.

Hey,

I posted you above...yeah, insurance companies don't want to cover over 60mg. But pdocs are prescribing much higher for MDD/TRD, maybe others, not sure.

Studies done after the STARD at NIMH showed better responses with MAOI's dosed at higher levels.
