To Keep Sharp on Lithium and Lamictal

Posted by Dan_MI on July 6, 2010, at 12:17:23

I've started doing drills of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication of large numbers in my head. I do it in a quiet room and I'm amazed at how good I have become at it.

And I am amazed at how well I did in Calculus (A). I remember leaving the final in a good mood, not because I thought I did well, but because after you sit down with math problems for 90 minutes, you start to feel it in your forehead, and it feels great.

As you might see from the previous run-on sentence, I am slightly hypomanic now, due to a night without air conditioning.

I hope you can find a good balance between keeping your moods under control and keeping your obvious intelligence intact. I'm sure that with a good doctor and enough fine-tuning of the meds, you'll be just fine.

Question Dan_MI.
You told me earlier that you had an immediate response to lithium. I have been slowly going up for about 3 weeks now. I am only at 200mg right now & have not had my blood tested. It seems that most people have a pretty quick response if it is going to work. Have you heard of anyone that had a late response? I am only using it to augment.

Not from personally taking lithium but saw my patients respond in about a week's time. Phillipa ps one doc gave it to most of his patients

I think the literature did say it could take a while. But lithium works behind the scenes, so you may not know until someone else points out how stable you've become.
