Remeron Side-Effects

Posted by Petrucci914 on June 28, 2010, at 12:49:28

Hello everyone,

I know this topic has been covered ad nauseum but I just wanted some reassurance, possibly. Do the Remeron side-effects tend to dissipate? I'm currently on Effexor XR 300MG which helped me immensely but then started Remeron 15MG for 2 weeks and I'm now on 30MG. It puts me to sleep right away and I don't seem to wake up as much at night but I do have some crazy dreams. I found that I have more difficulty waking up with the 30MG and I seem more out of focus and lazy with 30MG than the 15MG. Should I give it some more time? Or should I just stop it and deal with where I was with the Effexor? Effexor was the first thing that helped after numerous meds over the past 5 years but I thought I could feel even better with the California Rocket Fuel combination..... maybe I'm wrong?

I've read it takes a while. Funny always thought it was effexor and wellbutrin I was wrong. Hoping it kicks in soon. Phillipa

I don't think you can fully evaluate the antidepressant potential of Remeron until you reach a minimum dosage of 45mg. At that dosage, the sedative side effects begin to dissipate.

It gets better with time.

When going up in dosage you may feel a bit more anxious and stimulated for a few days, but that also fades with time.

Remeron does weird things to your blood sugar, however, so you may need to make sure you are eating enough protein and complex carbs as well as getting regular exercise. It doesn't necessarily make you gain weight, it never did for me, but part of the sedation and general feeling of being out of it seem to have something to do with blood sugar.

I just started it too, with a new job that has a massive learning curve. There is no way I can work like this. I'm like a vegetable, I'll have to switch to something else asap. I just don't have the time to wait for it's benefits to kick in. I can't get out of bed let alone start a new job, this is a terrible situation. I'm up to my 4th coffee and I took 2 Ritalin instead of one this morning. Nothing is working, typing is even a chore. I cannot work in this state tomorrow. What am I going to do?

For me, lower doses of remeron were better. 7.5 was good. Beyond that, the benefits went downhill.

I've heard ppl do better on 45mg but you went up from 15 to 30 and haven't felt any better so I don't know. 45 could be more stimulating for you or more sedating. I've been taking 30 for a few days and that feeling has already gone away for the most part.

How many days have you been on Remeron? If only a couple days it might make sense to stop and start on friday. Thats what I did. If i tried starting monday or even sunday I wouldn't be able to work well either.
