Well hi everyone, I'm going through hell again. I might have a new name but some things never change.
Depression, anxiety, insomnia, over sleeping, loss of appetite, constipation to the runs within the span of 6 hours is back. I have stopped working for the moment, I'm on sick leave with anxiety and depression....etc, you all understand. I've been like this for 20+ years. I've quickly established a medical support network. Great Dr/GP, psychologist and tomorrow I'm seeing a new psychiatrist. SUGGESTION PLS. I can't take anything that touches serotonin at all. So it's been a long and really tricky ride as I only just discovered the serotonin factor around 4-5 years ago.
Here's a list of meds that have worked in the past, for 6 months or longer before pooping out. I think I'll be off label boy from now on.
Provigil-Modafinil, best ever
Edronax-Reboxetine, good for the mind, bad side effects
Ritalin-Methylphenidate, 2nd best ever
Requip-Ropinirole, stopped due to excessive vomiting.
Rivotril-Clonazepam, it's been 4+ years and still going strong.Meds that have caused me grief over the last 20+ years

It generally tends to make me really sick, if not straight away it slowly poisons my system. I don't mean to be rude but did you read my post properly. I didn't mention that part but I thought it was pretty clear that I can't take serotonin based meds.

Yes read it and saw the no to serotonin but then you serotonin factor and wondered it it was something I'd never heard. Phillipa

Well, since you did well on Parnate, I'd suggest Nardil...
I don't know much about the serotonin thing you mentioned; Nardil is MAO substrate nonselective so it will increase serotonin levels (but then again, Parnate is also nonselective and that worked for you.)
Lots of Parnate responders have done well on Nardil and vice versa (myself included) when one or the other pooped out.
Have you thought about/used:
Selegiline/Emsam (MAO-B selective at lower doses) or Wellbutrin/bupropion (NE-DA reuptake inhibitor)?-z

Hey Zonked, thanks for the reply! I've never tried Parnate or Nardil, correct me if I'm wrong but they give serotonin a good workout which would be a nightmare for me.
NE and DA meds seem to work wonders for me so I'll look into Bupropion for sure. I'll also look into Selegiline too. I've tried a RIMA before which was Aurorix to no avail. Thanks again

Whoops! My bad. I misread Provigil as Parnate. LOL.
I would like to know what you mean, specifically, about the serotonin thing--SSRIs for example do NOT work on me (except one course of Zoloft, my first AD), but I've had good luck with nonselective MAOIs which are serotonergic but in a different way.

No probs at all Z. Interesting you mentioned Zoloft though, it's the only SSRI/SNRI that I tolerated for longer than 6 months.
OK, the bizarre unexplainable serotonin factor. Well it's not unexplainable really, it basically poisons my system, either very slowly like Zoloft, or very quickly like AROPAX (Paroxetine) Cymbalta, Efexor XR, or Prozac, etc... middle of the road reactions were luvox and Citalopram (Cipramil). I was never hospitalised but had very, very mild serotonin syndrome from mono therapy on paroxetine, citalopram and cymbalta (duloxetine). After switching pdocs and GP's because they kept prescribing it to me, the new ones keep doing the same thing. This is why I'm asking for advice for my new pdoc appointment tomorrow. I'll tell him, keep quiet and see what he does. If he prescribes one I won't go back.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. I am TRD as well. I didn't have huge side effects, but basically i did't respond to much of anything.
That is until I discovered Abilify. Abilify is my wonder drug. If you haven't tried it, it would be worth asking about.Best,
