How to turn an Introvert to an Extrovert? (SLS)

Posted by FrequentFryer on June 2, 2010, at 3:03:37

Well we all know Nardil Phenelzine is the best at this.... But it dosn't last long, how dose it do it?
Im guessing Heavy pre frontal d2 d3 dopamine acceleration..... But it only lasts me a month or two damn it. Could it be a GABA thing?
Parnate is also ok but radiclly deals with my blood preassure.
D-amphetamine comes second for me.... And Alcohol a close third.
Then Clonazapam.........
AAAAAAARRRRRR Iv'e tried so many combo's Im almost ready to give up.
At the moment Im on 20mg Lexapro, 600mg Bupropion & 600mg of Moclobemide.

Hi FF.

I'm not sure. I do think that the "GABA thing" might be involved. It is possible that there is a behavioral disinhibition thing happening - much the same as occurs in some people with benzodiazepines or alchohol. Maybe it's GHB-like in this regard. I really don't know what causes the loss of the pro-social and euphoriant effects of Nardil. Perhaps there is a downregulation of GABA receptors.

I found moclobemide to be transiently helpful (although it turned out to be the worst drug that I have ever taken). I hope it works for you. Roche attempted to get moclobemide approved in the US for social anxiety disorder quite awhile ago. Clinical trials did not demonstrate efficacy, so the project was terminated.

Its probably a result of chronic sleep disruption / disorganization.

hm, given the timeframe, i'd gues it is from d2 downregulation. gaba isn't implausible though.

and as for psych advice, i'd remind you taht most people are douchebags, and are just doing some socially programmed thing they picked up that worked for them.

you too can do be an obnoxious person (aka 'extrovert') if you keep that in mind strongly enough.

extroversion is just people verbally effusing whatever happens internally.

I think it depends how bad the introversion is. If they have no friends and never leave the house, then something must be done. Probably some kind of exposure therapy or something.

I really wouldn't be looking to a drug to fix this problem. It might be good to find someone in your family or a friend who is extroverted and see what they do and see if you can incorporate it into your life. I think a lot of introversion comes from fear of not knowing what to say and how people will react.

Quite justifiably too, often enough.

Don't think that is possible

Some of us are meant to be introverted and others extroverted. I always felt defective and wanted to become more extroverted but I have realized this is not possible.

Unfortunately the extroverted, as annoying as they can be, are seen as more valuable in society and work situtations.

The down side is that if all of us were extroverted, the world would self implode as many of the extraverted are so self serving, all others needs would cease to exist and there would be no give and take, or balance, in life.
