Switching from Effexor to Cymbalta - Help!

Posted by somnambulist on May 20, 2010, at 10:53:51

Hello all,
I have been on Effexor XR 150mgs for several years now and it has seemed to stop working. Went to the Dr yesterday and she told me to stop taking the Effexor and just start taking Cymbalta 60mg starting today. I am scared because I have tried to stop taking Effexor before and it was horrible. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it normal to just switch like that? Any input would be great............

When I switched from Zoloft to Cymbalta my pdoc had me cross-taper the meds over the course of a week. The good news is that the Cymbalta has worked great for me, though at 90mg, not 60, which used to be considered a high dose, but not any longer. My pdoc says she has some people on 120mg.

Can cymbalta be used as an antidepressant for bipolar condition or is that risky? I tried cymbalta once and I couldn't sleep does that ever go away?

chujoe, you would never get an english doc to tapper zoloft an ssri ,to cymbalta snri//you would have to wash out completly to change ssri to snri//they say it to risky//you have all on to find a doc to even tapper ssri to another ssri//my shrink said no/ my gp said yes but he hasnt a clue anyway //i am my own shrink they just script me if its in the nhs book of generics //an i dont want a high dose to start, they are prepaird to let me use my own judgment//because they have never got it right in 40 years of meds//i us babble experiences as my p doc .people that are ill //not third world shrinks that carn speak english ,all are p docs are in america on the golf course an megga money, true dedication????????????????? not

Day 2 and it seems ok. I know the real test will be after a few days. I feel kind of spacey, but that is probably from the medication I took yesterday for migraine.........

I take Fiorinal for migraines. Doesn't always work and I have to take a bunch of them.......Thanks for asking. Today was ok, except for the fact that it is now 3:20 am and I am wide awake. I hate insomnia!

I seem to be doing ok with the switch. My only complaint is the headaches and getting to sleep. Thanks to all who responded to my post, I appreciate it, especially as a newbie!
