I just started imipramine and I notice that I feel like I need to pee much more often (sometimes even after I went). Does this side effect go away; it's quite annoying? I thought if anything, it would make you urinate less since it has the indication of preventing children from wetting their bed.

Hi bearfan - I only noticed that I had to pee after brushing my teeth - even if I had just gone - that was the only weird thing for me on imipramine.

It's really annoying and hope it goes away or else I may have to consider stopping it

I know amitriptyline is used for children's enuresis, didn't know about imipramine too. But when I was taking Cymbalta - a SNRI - it really affected my bladder. It's even indicated for hesitant bladder problems. Maybe a similar mechanism, something to do with norepinephrine, is causing you to go?
imipramine is a highly regarded AD though, so if it begins to help you, you might want to ride out the SEs and see if they get better, or try to find something to counter them.

It wasn't as bad today. I'm starting to like Tofranil PM because it seems to have a similar effect of an SNRI but with a different side effect profile. For an older medication, it seems to be relatively clean compared to the reputations of TCAs

Hi bearfan - I'm glad it's starting to work for you. Just give it a little longer for the side effects to stabilize and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised - I know I was.
Regards,
M

The mild prostate pain and difficultly urinating hasn't gone way (2 weeks). How much different is desimparine?
