Moclamine/Manerix Experiences (moclobemide)

Posted by bearfan on May 4, 2010, at 2:53:13

Anyone have a positive experience to share about Moclobemide vs SSRIs? It's a reversible MAOI, and for most medications, only requires a 2 day washout vs the standard 2 week with MAOIs. Is it a more natural depression/anxiety relief?

I havn't had any luck with it and have tried dosages up to 1200mg.. i've noticed a lot of psychs seem to think of it as a joke of a drug as well...
The only effects i ever noticed were insomnia and lack of appetite.. made a great weight loss drug.

I tried it a while back. It didn't help, but at least I didn't have any side effects.

It must work for someone, because otherwise they wouldn't still prescribe it. That said, I have never once in the last 10 years seen anyone have any luck with. Most online pdocs say it is worthless.

I suspect that part of the problem is that moclobemide is often prescribed after a large number of other meds have failed, but that it isn't really 'strong' enough to be used in this situation. If it was used as a first-line treatment for moderate depression, it might perform reasonably well.
