starting Mirapex

Posted by inanimate peanut on January 29, 2010, at 0:08:42

Well, we're skipping T3 for now due to access, so we start with number 3 on the list-- Mirapex. It's a dopamine drug. There are several promising studies-- I'll send these along if anyone babbles with their e-mail. I'm not sure how long it takes; most of the studies were for 6 weeks. So, I'm sure we'll run the trial at least 4 weeks. Here's hoping! This will test my patience more than anything.

Increasing dopamine seems to make sense, based on your symptoms. Good luck and keep us updated on how it's going.

Hi Peanut.

Be aware that some people experience "sleep attacks" with Mirapex. I don't know if there are any warning signs that this effect will emerge. It doesn't always appear immediately.

Good luck.

What are "sleep attacks"? Like narcolepsy? Thanks for the warning.

I think I'm going for 1.5-1.75 according to Stanford doc. Most of the studies used smaller dosages than that. I started on .5 last night and will increase by .5 every 5 days. Supposedly this is to avoid nausea, but I didn't have any nausea with it last night anyway. My grandma also takes it for restless legs syndrome and has never had any trouble with nausea.

They have a new generic. I think I am going to insist on name brand until I know whether it works. It would be awful to try a generic and then have it turn out that it was a bad generic and that the name brand would have worked for me!

They are sudden, irresistible attacks of sleep that resemble narcolepsy. They can occur at any dosage, although they are supposedly more likely to occur at higher dosages. One can be hit with a sleep attack while doing just about anything, including driving.
