Abilify vs Geodon

Posted by Maximus on January 30, 2010, at 19:07:31

Hello all,

How would you compare Abilify to Geodon? I would use Abilify as an add-on to my current meds for the treatment of bipolar depression.

I found Geodon to cause anxiety. Is Abilify better or worst in that department?

Thanks

Abilify is better for mood, Geodon is more for thinking [blocks some dopamine]

I read somewhere Abilify increases a "bit" of dopamine in some sector's. All I know is it does not work well with me, it causes just "irrtiblity". Geodon is more 'zoning' out, ablify is more for the mood.

I can't really say which one would suite you best.

But those are what I know

For me, abilify worked like a magic pill on my mood (severe depression). Within 48 hours, the depression would lift. Geodon, on the other hand, had no impact at all.

But everyone is different, unfortunately

I'm well thank you. But i would like a "complete" remission, that's why i'm asking about Abilify.

Please, could you tell me how exactly the Abilify helps you? Thanks.

I don't understand the chemistry, but every time I took abilify, I would feel fine within 48 hours. It had no side effects I was aware of -- it was like taking a vitamin every day. However, within two weeks, I would start gaining very serious amounts of weight - 2 to 3 pounds a week. Weight-gain, apparently, is unusual but not unheard of with abilify. That's why I kept starting and stopping it. I would have loved to stay on it because, for me, it was a potent anti-depressant.

Hi there

Maybe you weren't on a high enough dosage of the Geodon. I found it more simulating at 60 mg but once I pushed it up to 180 mg it wasn't stimulating anymore. It didn't really help me though so I stopped taking it.

Hi Maxie,

The maximum dose was 120 mg a day of Zeldox. I was too scared to go higher.

Anyway, my pdoc gave me today the green light for Abilify. I'm going to start it tomorrow morning. I'll keep you in touch. Bye
