Questions about liquid Lexapro dose

Posted by herpills on January 20, 2010, at 10:51:11

I've been tapering off Lexapro for the last month. I am down to 2.5 mg (from 5mg) and I'm wondering how I'm going to control the dose at this point. It was hard enough cutting the 20mg pills into 8 even pieces. I'm pretty sensitive to small changes in the dose. How does the liquid work? Can I get an accurate dose of 1mg or 2mg with it? Thanks for the advice. herpills

Yes, you can get an extremely accurate dose with liquid Lex. It will depend on which syringe or dropper you use. My pharmacy gives them out for free and can choose from several different sizes. The one I got holds 1mg, and has 10 measuring lines on the side of it, so I could be as accurate as 1/10th of a milligram.

Weird, but my doctor has people actually in remission on drops of Lexapro, nowhere near the usual "supposed" therapuetic doses. My opinion, and his, is that normal doses are excessively too high, but that is another story. Less can work just as well, but takes longer.

It would be harder without liquid but you could still do it. You would have to crush the pill into powder, then mix it with rice flour to make a bigger pile, and then you could divide those piles into whatever sizes you wanted. There would still be some inaccuracy, but the larger the pile, the less inaccuracy.

In their world maybe.

In the real world, they're wrong.

First time I was put on Lexapro, was told start at 5mg, take that for only 6 days! Then go to 10mg. Years later I went down to 5mg, got same benefits without side effects. I think with any of these meds, find the lowest dose that works! You can always go up later, probably inevitable with some meds if taking them long term...

Thank you so much! I think I will look into getting the liquid...

I totally agree about doses being prescribed too high, especially when you don't even give a lower dose a chance. Most docs want to ramp you up quickly.
