Starting Strattera tomorrow AM - feeling anxious

Posted by tootercat on December 10, 2009, at 15:37:46

I have been treated for depression and general anxiety disorder for the last 20 years (I'm 52) and have FINALLY been given the diagnosis of ADD with some Hyperactivity. (which I believe is my core issue and has been all along) I've been on AD's for a long time...currently on 150 mg Wellbutrin SR (bupropion)and although it may help with my depression I STILL have all of the loveliness (NOT)of the negative effects of ADD -lincluding the anxiety. (Believe it or not I LIKE some of my ADDness)So finally after doing the DSM-IV question/answer test with my T I went to my Primary doc and on her recommendation he has prescribed Strattera 40 mg to start. I have been told that I have to take it first thing in the morning - no variation. Now I KNOW it is not really a good idea (sometimes) to get feedback beforehand because it can plant negative seeds in the brain and "create" side effects that may not have come to fruition otherwise. On the other hand I am hoping that I get some positive information as well. so there it is....

Thanks,
Toots

Hi tootercat. I have lately seen some positive posts on stratera. Strange that anxiety turns out to be ADD isn't it? Phillipa

Thanks Phillipa - I'm hoping that the positive effects outweigh any negative "growing pains". I've seen a mixed bag of feedback regarding this drug...hence my additional anxiety :)

NRIs can do wonders for anxiety.

Good luck.

fb..started yesterday....found myself waking up in the middle of the afternoon sitting on my sofa after an unplanned nap LOL...felt a little spacy but not bad...definitely had the "thirsties"...and last night I was able to fall asleep watching tv but when I went to bed I had the "startles" (I was falling asleep and then abruptly woke up feeling startled or a bit frightened) This is not a new experience for me as on occasion I still have what a previous T called night terrors (but haven't had one in awhile)....am hoping once this kicks in those will maybe go away for good... I think I did "sleep" a lttle; just not "below the surace" I decided to try an old trick I use when I am having trouble sleeping..I had a small glass of milk - now whether it was a "mind over matter" or the tryptophan in the milk actually did the job I was able to finally get some real sleep for about 3-4 hours...Since nothing I've felt is life threatening I will try to hang in there for it to reach full theraputic level...I'd love to hear about your experiences over the last two weeks...

Truthfully I was surprised that I felt any side effects so quickly but then I am very susceptible to drugs so I guess I shouldn't be :)

Hey fb! Happy Chrismakwanzakah!

so far the only thing that seems to be lingering (and I am not sure that it really is) is the inability to fall and stay asleep unless I take my Lunesta..... I have needed to make sure of a good nights rest (tis the season to be busy and need maximum energy) so I haven't taken the plunge to see if I'm able to do it on my own.

Truthfully I think I may feel a bit more focused already but maybe that's me being optomistic. I certainly have more energy (and actually had some when I was missing sleep - go figure) so something is working for me.

Thank you very much for asking about my progress..that is very kind of you....how are YOU doing????

Hugs,
Toots

btw I take my Strattera between 7:30 and 8 in the morning...as per my doc's instructions of "take it first thing in the morning"
