eating Tyrosine without knowing (Parnate)

Posted by inanimate peanut on December 8, 2009, at 8:43:01

I just realized today that the protein powder I eat every morning has 703mg of Tyrosine in it. I haven't had any problems that I'm aware of. Do you think since I haven't had any problems with it that I can keep doing it like I have been? I've been doing it for over a week. Would I be able to tell if I were having a reaction? I really need the protein as that's what I use for breakfast.

If it were me I wouldn't take any chances. I'd stop the protein powder. I do hope some who knows answers Phillipa

Peanut:
I think you're OK. If you check the Archives, Parnate people were talking about protein powders not too long ago...should be some threads on it.
It seemed to be fine for them. Its the tyramine we have to look out for.
If it were me, I would get the ones with whey as the protein as opposed to soy. Too much soy seems to be bad for many people.
I do know that a lot of Parnate people take protein powder. I may try it myself after the holidays.
Willyee might add some insight. He knows all about that body building stuff!!

Take care,

Gayle

Oh, I mixed up Tyramine and Tyrosine I guess. I had them take my blood pressure today anyway at the partial hospital program and it was fine, so I guess it wasn't hurting me (and then I forgot that teriyaki sauce has soy sauce and had teriyaki chicken for lunch- oops! I guess I'm still getting used to this dietary restriction thing!)

Oops: confused Tyrosine and Tyramine! (nm)
