Nardil dizziness, blurred vision + mydriasis

Posted by pedr on September 28, 2009, at 9:13:23

Hi,
I'm on 75mg Nardil and am getting the above (well documented) side-effects. I seem to get them rather easily. For example if I go up a flight of stairs 2-by-2 (when bombing to work), when I get to the top I get all 3 and I have to hold onto something or I feel like I will lose balance and over and I can't see a thing!

This is no big deal, I have just become one of those slow-coaches I usually raced past on the stairs :)

However I love playing soccer. It's my escape, my favourite activity by miles, I just love it. Naturally it involves far more movement than just going up a flight of stairs and the results have been predictable. I play for 20 seconds and have to stop. Which is pretty gutting.

Hence I would like to know if/when others get these side-effects. Am I unlucky to get them so easily? Can others do sports on Nardil? Could provigil potentially help?

Cheers,
Pete

Do you have a bp cuff to check your blood pressure. Hypotension is a likely cause. Some I've read here take salt tablet ick for the blood pressure. I do know one person who fell and broke her back on nardil cause of low blood pressure so wouldn't think soccer would be good now? What's your doc say? Phillipa

yikes, I'll put the soccer on hold for now :) Sounds like you are spot on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthostatic_hypotension - those are exactly the symptoms I get, I forgot to mention that I also get a moderate ringing&deafness in my ears for a minute or two.

Promisingly the page also says:
> Sometimes stimulant drugs such as Adderall or Ritalin can be of assistance. Benzodiazepines are commonly prescribed as well.

- I wonder if this includes Provigil? That would be frikkin marvellous. Thanks for the post!

Pete

Pete,

I take 75mg of Nardil. I am able to bike and run without excessive fatigue. Are you taking all of your Nardil at once or are you dividing up the dose? I was taking all of my 60mg all at once and it really slowed down my physiology. I could barely run one block. Then I divided up the dose to 30mg twice a day and that helped a lot. I felt like my heart was actually beating healthy and fast after exercise.

Provigil, in my experience, will not necessarily help with energy level for exercise. Maybe help you stay awake at the office.

Hi atypical,
now you mention it I do feel intense fatigue. In the last game I played, I felt like I had lead boots on and only had 10% power in my body.

I'm taking it 45mg at bedtime and 30mg when I wake up. I've tried playing footie in the a.m. and late at night and got the same side-effects.

Could provigil possibly help with the vision & dizziness? It would be a real boost for me to be able to exercise.

Cheers,
Pete
