Seriously Fear Of Alone, Stupid Stuff What is it?

Posted by Phillipa on September 24, 2009, at 14:03:52

This question is serious to me. What's it mean when you fear everything including your family, being alone for two seconds, going upstairs, stupid stuff but the fear is real to me. Funny as even when anxious no elevated heart rate, no emotions just hyperventilate or retreat. But when get out on the bike I fight it and feel better is it psychological or require a med? And I'm terrified of meds from past experiences with the ones I took myself. Thanks Jan/Phillipa

try meditation, but yeah medicines will/could help too.
Meditation will allow you to observe those thoughts, rather than be them.
Instead of being those thoughts and feeling them as if they are you, meditation can dissconnect you from those worries and you can watch them inside your head.
exercise is great too.

You keep asking the same question and people keep giving you the same answer. I don't think it matters what we think anymore because you don't seem to hear.

I hear the word think that's doesn't seem to fit the work "Know". And what are the boards suggestion since you use the word we. Isn't that rather a generalization. Sam didn't think the same as you and he's part of babble board. He was helpful and kind. Phillipa

Phillipa, have you tried a benzo? I have some of the fear of being alone & it is probably both mind & body. Unfortunately I have tried for years to use my "mind"/ cognition and it only offers me minor help. I go crazy sometimes, and I have noticed that it is worse at certain times of my cycle (physicial). And loneliness is a symptom of depression. I probably have more friends than most people, and still get a freaked-out lonely feeling. Where did this come from? Probably a pre-disposition + childhood ???) + bio. It is one of the worst parts of my mood. I have tried to figure it out for years, so I feel your pain.

Thanks for understanding. I've been on benzos that worked wonderfully for many years so well that at times didn't even need any. Now tolerance so I kind of want to fight it so to speak. Not easy for sure. One pdoc said abandonment issues as a child. I kind of raised myself alone. And house always empty when came home as Mother usually in the hospital. So I guess that fear still is there. Thanks again Love Phillipa

I'll second the above.

This is the last time I will mention this. You need to seriously focus on sessions with a psychologist and put the meds/psychiatrist on the back burner for now. Until YOU decide to go in the right direction for help, the sooner you can begin to shed the layers of your psyche and get to the core issues. As Dr. Phil would say, "It's time to get real."

Have you tried going on long walking tours in the mountains?

General:
From what I know, every mental disorder is 100 % biological, 100% psychological and 100% social.

No matter how deeply rooted in childhood, the disorder or the problems have an organic correlate in the brain; There exist no such thing as an immaterial psyche - there is a (material) central nervous system, and it is a integral part of our bodies.

[I still use dualistic words as "mental" and "psychological", but that is just because I want to be understood and because of language conservatism].

So we have our bodies, but not minds, psyches or spirits, or more precise: We _are_ our bodies.

Medication can be used against problems from the childhood and cognitive therapy can be used against inherited (genetic, biological) mental disorders and vice versa, because also the cognitive therapy affects the brain.
If it hadn't done so, it wouldn't have had an effect at all.

Since we have no way of dissecting our thoughts and subconscious in a concrete material way, I would argue that much of our psyche could very well be immaterial, at least at this stage in the game.

Given the kinds of meds we have it might not matter being scared of them.

It's not as if you're missing out on much.

To my other friends I welcome your're wonderful suggestions. Thanks so much. Yes excercise is great, just wish could find another therapist that accepts medicaire here and focuses on problems and doesn't look off into the sky and act bored. Four so far. Oh well. I just read a wonderful post by Morganstor about death being what we all fear and he definitely hit the nail on the head. I'm sending it to someone who went through this today. Thanks all again. Love Phillipa

Try baby steps...5 mins. alone, 10 mins alone, slowly work up and you just might develop more self confidence. i.e., facing your fears, but very gradually/slowly. Best wishes Dear.

Please don't post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down. Even if you feel offended.

But please don't take this personally, either, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're bad people, and I'm sorry if this hurts you.

More information about posting policies and tips on alternative ways to express oneself, including a link to a nice post by Dinah on I-statements, are in the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#enforce

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above posts, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

Speak just about **your** feelings, and usually you are okay.

Something like, "I felt hurt when I read that," as it does not accuse or put down anyone else. But NOT, "I felt hurt by your rude reply," (that's not an "I-statement" and it would really be the same as what Bob cited..)

Of course, that is just my non-admin, non-official advice, but hopefully it is good anyway ;-)
