who is that cute kid?

Posted by uncouth on April 25, 2009, at 20:34:24

ok sorry to be a brat here, but who is that cute kid in the picture at the top of the page, and can you please take her away? some of us look at children and it just makes us feel terrible, becuase we don't know if we'll ever have some of our own due to mental illness preventing relationships from happening.

so when i see that cute girl, the first thing that comes into my mind is "gee i bet i'll never have one of those" and it makes me sad. i'd rather see dr. bob's ugly mug (j/k...)

I'm sorry uncouth that must hurt a lot. The little girl is Manic's granddaughter. Someday you too will have kids as I have faith in your recovery. Love Phillipa

sorry

yes she is cute , an yes she may get ill its in her generation,it seem one in every generation in my side of the family, my middle daughter emma is mentally ill an has a cute son, i say ill she has recovered 10 fold since her son was born , an now holds a top job with ortistic kids,i have 4 kids an if the pattern follows 1 of there kids may get mental illness , but the pull for kids is way to strong . there are any number of illneses our kids could get , but the love far out weigh,s the risk. you will have a kid an he or she will be buietiful. trust me

Your sister has RECOVERED since having a child? Wow! That's contrary to most everything I have read about having a child...may I ask what d/x she had?

I empathize, totally. I always think of my loss when I see other people's kids.

See, I too will NEVER have a child b/c my sister has schizophrenia and my mom and I have major affective disorders. I experience "pseudo-hallucinations" or "quasi-hallucinations" and am terrified I will become psychotic with post-partum depression.

It has been a huge sadness to me. Now I am almost 40, and that just increases risk for things like schizophrenia (longitudinal studies show that the greater the age of the father at time of conception, the higher the risk for schizophrenia).

Anyway, it's sad all around for us non-moms and non-dads.

the story, is even more unbleivable,my daughter emma , is a child i had in a relationship many years ago, i lost all touch with her as she moved away with her mum,22 years later i had a phone call, an she said you are my dad can i see you ,we met an now she understands her illness she thought it was her fault, she now knows her history an faces illness full on, hence gabriel her boy ,she is happier now than she as ever been
