Switching from Lexapro to Celexa

Posted by KarenRB53 on April 27, 2009, at 13:17:37

I've been on Lexapro for over 3 months. Its too strong for me even at 10mg and I'm now at 5mg. I want to switch to Celexa (so does my pdoc), can I just switch to Celexa without tapering down anymore on Lexapro. Or should I taper right down to next to nothing on Lexapro and then start Celexa. Thanks, Karen

I would but then I've always done direct switches as all have always been to stimulating for me. Found celexa made me tired. Same time as lymes found so could have been that? Phillipa

Yeah, you can normally switch SSRI's without tapering the first one, and Celexa and Lexapro are SO similar it really shouldn't be an issue.

I would just switch. the 2 are very similar. When I switched from celexa to zoloft I just changed all in one day and no problems.

Yeah, and Lex to Celexa has the added advantage that they're basically the same thing with some subtle differences. So no discontinuation effects. Yay!

Were you on Celexa for long and do you mind telling me why you switched to Zoloft? Is the Zoloft working well for you?

Thanks to you all for responding. I'm hoping Celexa will work better for me than Lexapro. I had problems right from the start with Lexapro but wanted to give it a fair trial. It has dried my skin up so bad on my face that anything I use, even Vaseline, makes it sting. It also increased my anxiety.

I took celexa for 7 years. At the end it didn't feel like it was doing anything. So I switched to zoloft. The zoloft started out realy well, now I hardly notice what its doing. I was taking I high dose of celexa, 60mg. When I switched to zoloft I started out small, 50mg, and worked up to 150 in about 2 weeks.

Zoloft is better for anxiety than celexa. For me anyways.

you're on a pretty low dose of Lexapro. Lexapro in all I've read is much more powerful than its previous incarnation, so Celexa might be just the right next step for you.
