Trouble swallowing on Abilify

Posted by jerrypharmstudent on April 4, 2009, at 17:54:56

I'm having some weird swallowing problems - it only seems to happen with food. It's like the back of my throat just forgot what to do. I don't choke or anything - it's just hard to explain.

Anyone else have this issue? I'm thinking of asking my pdoc to lower my dosage (15mg currently). I know it's the Abilify because I went off of it for about 10 days and noticed things return to normal.

thanks
Jerry

No swelling or anything - nothing that leads me to believe I'm allergic.

Is this just when you are taking the dose, or all the time ?

I have noticed occasionally that just after taking Seroquel there is a sensation and panic when swallowing food afterward (not that I should be eating at night, but...)

I definitely have trouble swallowing on Seroquel. I never used to have any problem taking pills but now I can't swallow the calcium tabs I used to take.

Jerry is that a side effect? I've never heard of that could it be anxiety as when mine high can't swallow. Love Phillipa

I recently saw a TV ad for Abilify and they listed trouble swallowing as a side effect.

I'm at 15mg a day and hoping a reduction in dose will help - perhaps like 5-10mg.

I stopped the Abilify for about 10 days and a lot of my side effects went away or got better including the difficulty swallowing.

Not exactly - I went back on the Abilify after the 10 days off of it because my depression returned.

The depression returning was probably withdraw from abilify. It takes a long time to get over.

That's right I remember you saying that you'd been on abilify. Could you post how long it will take for Jerry to feel better? Maybe he is as he did say back on it as depression returned. Love Phillipa

I find that it takes 3 times longer than you took the abilify to get over the withdraw.
