Wellbutrin + Zoloft weight loss

Posted by annelyse on March 26, 2009, at 11:45:42

Has anyone else experienced weight loss effects adding wellbutrin to zoloft? I have been on zoloft for a few months and am noticing more cravings, less motivation to exercise and I can feel I am starting to gain weight. My doctor wants me to start wellbutrin.

Wellbutrin on its own caused me to lose weight very rapidly. I lost about 10 pounds in a month.

Combined with Zoloft, I managed to gain a few back but it was tough going and if I hadn't tried I definitely wouldn't have gained.

I don't know why they don't prescribe Wellbutrin for weight loss, because it sure does make it hard to eat. If you want to lose weight I'd give it a try, but be careful, because it can cause very rapid weight loss and bad insomnia.

When WB worked for me in the past, it counteracted those SSRI effects you just listed. I felt extreme lethargy from SSRIs, including Zoloft, which the WB mitigated; this allowed me to get back to exercise and eating healthy while it lasted. When you are tired, unmotivated, and miserable-it's tough enough to merely get through the day let alone take care of yourself. Wellbutrin did help me tremendously at one point. I've heard of a few others with similar success.

I posted earlier how it immediately stopped unusual and annoying cravings for carbs within 2 days.

Let us know how it goes!

Wellbutrin caused me to loose weight very fast as well, but since I'm already fairly small it was not a good thing. I lost about 12lbs in 2 weeks, which took me to an "underweight" IBM. And although I was more awake (the reason for taking WB) I had no energy for anything. It made me feel faint and dizzy along with a whole host of other side effects. Not only was it really difficult to eat, but my metabolism seems to be going into overdrive, which I deduced from the high heart rate and periods of extreme hot flashes and sweats. So be careful because it works!

I'm not sure if it's common, but keep your eye (ear?) out for tinnitus. WB gave me REALLY bad tinnitus and even though I was only on it for 2-3 weeks at the longest, the tinnitus lasted for months after I stopped.
