I am really confused. I have been taking 45mgs of Remeron at bedtime for about six months, along with 300mgs of seroquel and 2mgs of klonopin. I sleep like the dead but wake up with galloping anxiety even tho I take another mg of klonopin in the morning. My pdoc thinks the Remeron may be causing the the anxiety and wants me to taper off of it. Has anyone had remeron increase their anxiety? All I see is about how good remeron is for anxiety.

For most it is sedating -- a good antidepressant, not necessarily indicated one way or the other for anxiety, but I tried it again more recently and it didn't work the same.
It was probably the adrenergic aspects that caused paradoxical insomnia and anxiety.-- Jay

It doesn't give me insomnia. It's a great sleeper. I would have bet the seroquel was causing the anxiety but the docs seem to think it's the remeron... guess I'll just have to go along with the taper and see what happens. I know it makes sense to change only one med at a time but it makes change sooo slow.

I was just comparing anxiety possibilities -- NE can make -some- people more anxious.

Why not drop the dose and see if the anxiety reduces at all.
Why not try 30 and see?

I'm not sure of anything except that I wake up with nightmares and in a panic. Benzos don't seem to make me anxious during day... I think it's the seroquel but nobody else seems to think so and I'm afraid to try reducing it because it is my main antidepressant. Maybe it'll put up a new post about seroquel and anxiety.

Remeron exacerbated my anxiety. It was OK when I didn't have anxiety attacks, but when they occurred, I was sick and suicidal for rest of the day. I've had the same problem with other AD's.

It didn't seem to cause me any anxiety until I added seroquel. Now they want me to increase the seroquel and taper off the Remeron. I don't know what to do because even tho I think it is causing anxiety, I think the seroquel is also giving me some antidepressant relief.
