Something strange happened..

Posted by Connor on March 22, 2009, at 17:19:11

So I was taking fish oil with 5htp. And I started getting these muscle spasms. They were focused in the eye and all over, I couldn't sit still.

I also notice and accompanied anhedonia, where I had no anxiety, no depression, just an utterly unbearable flat feeling. So I went off everything and the feelings still persist.

But what is MOST troubling is the fact that I no longer respond to any drugs/medication anymore. Alcohol, caffiene, adderall, pain killers, no longer effect me at all. And I don't feel any emotions either. (I took adderall since 7th grade and I never had a problem with tolerance)

The only thing that seems to have any effectiveness is 5htp and tryptophan, for some odd reason when I combine medications with these, the medications will start working again but not as quite often as they were.

I still experience involuntary spasms but they're not as bad as they were. I am no longer able to sleep because they seem to happen right as I'm about to fall asleep my whole body spasms, instantly waking me up from the semi-sleep state I was in.

I have researched this for weeks and weeks but I am not even close to finding and answer.

I have encountered one person experiencing the same exact symptoms from the fish oil. He was also coincidently taking 5htp with it.

I feel like my nuerotransmitters have been shut down. I've been like this for a while and I just don't think that there's a way out.

For a reference, here is an account of another person experiencing the same exact thing.

Connor--In regard to that flat effect, did you ever think you might have schitzophrenia? A person can have just negative symptoms w/o having positive symptoms.

Ever since paxil I acquired an inability to tolerate medications that use to work for me. Adderall would make me crash too much, caffiene would make me all foggy, before both were very effective when it came to mood and concentration.

After paxil everything changed. I am thinking that this is the reason why I had such an odd reaction to the fish oil. It is a powerful supplement..seeing as though it's has shown to be almost as effective in combating conditions like bipolar disorder as prescription medications. I am not currently on paxil or any ssri, but the changes it made continue to persist.

So my body wasn't able to tolerate fish oil at all and basically i got this effect for some reason. I was already pretty emotionless before but I did have emotion to an extent now I hardly feel anything. Combine that with these spasms i'm getting, and the fact that I don't respond to any drugs or medication, ya something is seriously f*ck*d up with me big time.

Okay. The only reason I mentioned it is because a person can have that flatness and no noticable (positive) symptoms of schitzophrenia. People get misdiagnosed all the time. I've thought about that diagnosis as a possibility for me because my Grandmother had it. She didn't have the flatness I just referred to, and while she developed many positive symptoms, hallucinations, voices, etc., it originally manifested in her as a catatonic depressive state.

There's a spectrum, some believe, of schitzophrenia just like there is for autism and other conditions. A person can be at the left of the spectrum, which is the possibility I considered for myself. It was in this way that I thought it was worth mentioning to you.
