Can I combine low-dose sulpiride and risperidone?

Posted by HyperFocus on March 22, 2009, at 19:56:51

Low-dose sulpiride seem to have minor positive effects with me - can I combine it with risperidone? What are the consequences of combining two neuroleptics? From a cursory search there doesn't seem to be much evidence for combined APs superiority over a single agent, although combining two APs is a somewhat common occurence in hospitals. The risk for EPS seems much higher though. Low-dose sulpiride acts as dopamine agonist contradicting the action of risperidone - what could be the consequences of combiining the 2?

if both are low doses, i think it would be a good combination, and have very low EPS potential. You might get some mood and sleep benefits from teh risperidone, and the good improvement on negative symptoms from low dose amisulpride. i don't see it as useful if the risperidal is a higher dose, but you could get some improvement by adding low-dose risperdone a higher dose of amisulpride.
