Deep Brain Stimulation

Posted by Meltingpot on March 9, 2009, at 11:27:40

Hi,

There are so many people coming to this board who have suffered from Treatment Resistant Depression for years. I was just wondering if anybody is thinking of or is going to participate in one of the trials for this treatment???

I guess not then.

Would anybody on this board consider it?

it seems promising.

if i decided to try a non-drug option, i'd probably look into transcranial magnetic stimulator. if it worked, one could buy one, though they are very expensive now, but with enough work i think one could be built too. i guess i don't want to have a wire out of me always. hope you figure something out that works for you.

d/r,

I couldn't care less if I had a wire in my head as long as I could enjoy life again. It would be wonderful to be able to actually feel alive again.

Why don't your try the rTMS? I've heard that they are now experimenting with rTMS machines that stimulate deeper into the brain.

well i still have some pharmaceuticals i think could be helpful, and since i haven't really worked out the ADHDi stuff yet, i'm pretty incapable of doing any projects, especially one as involved as creating a fTMS! i have no idea how to get regular, professional rTMS, and i think it would be a least a thousand or two. and most of the research has been depression, which is very well controlled, not anxiety-avoidance or attention. i suppose one might be able to buy one from china, everything is cheap in china, and they would probably sell one to the public if you had the cash.
