Patronizing..accusatory pharmacist...urgggggg!!

Posted by Jay_Bravest_Face on January 14, 2009, at 17:06:48

Once again...the suspicious, accusatory, patronizing pharmacist.

Okay....I am due for my refill of my clonazepam. Doctor ordered..knows of it..been the same for almost 6 years. My doctor also gave me some *extra* Xanax for the month of January, because I was just in a terrible and anxious twist. It would be a one-time deal, and that was all I needed. And, as a sleep med, I take a very tiny dose of Oxazepam...as I also have for years.

So, I phone the pharmacy, and ask for my clonazepam refill, the normally nice pharmacist
checks my meds on the computer, and tells me "You are on a lot of benzos...you are going to have to wait until tomorrow morning and I will call your doctor." I am *beat red* furious...as if it is HIS business what my doctor prescribes! There are no interactions, and I can tell he is just playing "drug squad cop". Last time, this guy also made me go to a walk-in clinic and wait 3 hours just to get a script for Effexor, which I was re-starting, but had some on file from about a month ago. I have never had this problem before, and the owner, another pharmacist and very nice lady, always went through with whatever I was prescribed and needed. She is in tomorrow morning, and I am going to give her the story on this other 'pharmacist', who is trying to play me as f*ck*ng dumb, when I likely know more about my meds then he does.

Anyhow...thank you for letting me vent. ;-)

I wonder if it's worth your doctor calling this pharmacist and having a little conversation with him. About how patients who use benzos are people too. And how scrips that patients present that are signed by him and that patient has no record of abusing these substances should not be given the third degree or made to wait while offices are called and "facts" are checked.

Just wondering if the doctor is in a position to be your advocate at all.

And I understand perfectly your venting. I've changed pharmacies based on how I've been treated by god-like dispensaries before - like those who tell me that I "must have" brought the scrip to some other branch, simply because they've misplaced it in their chaotic surroundings. I let that happen 4 times before I walked away.

Remember - we are the CUSTOMERS. They are the SERVICE PROVIDERS. I think they get these roles mixed up many times, and it's starting to happen to us, too.

Yeh, I know just the type. I think I know what's happening. The government is telling pharmacists that they will lose their license if Benzo's get into the "wrong" hands.

So the pharmacist is making problems for us to get our meds. All of a sudden Benzos are on the "problem drug" list and we pay for it.

If the pharmacy is threatened about their livelihood, who are they going to protect, themselves or us?

I've been here too and when I pull up or walk up to the counter, they all start tip-toeing around on eggshells. Ya' know there is actually one that realizes what a mess it is there. He told me, 'no matter what happens, it won't be your docs fault or ours ... it'll be yours ... it's awful'.

This is starting to piss me off. I'm going to write letters to my Congressmen about this.

See the thread: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20090104/msgs/872214.html

Meanwhile, I just read in the NY Times today of the glucoma eye medication being used for cosmetic purposes--to thicken eyelashes. So potent and sometimes life-threatening medications and procecedures are permitted for vanity--lipsuction, breast implants, botox injections, and I'm sure you can think of many more, but those who need these cheap, old, and effective drugs continue to be ostracized. Meanwhile, we spend millions trying to prevent people from using plants that can be grown in one's backyard.

I read that Stevia--a sugar plant used as a sweetner--was previously banned in the US-and is still illegal in some countries!!

As I've said before, the insane ones are NOT the mentally ill.

No problems so far getting benzos filled Jay take two also. They see the prescription is due to be refilled and actually call as reminder. Love Phillipa ps their computer tracks the meds

Yeah, the pharmacist probably thought the doc had told you to discontinue the clonazepam.

I suspect his call will make the doc a little peeved too.

Seldom

You're not kidding. o_o I believe you; I just don't believe they can put a pharmacist up their equal to a doc. Same thing happened to J happened to me and I said in front of the whole lingering crowd, as loudly as he had just spoken to me, 'This is my doctor's order. You're here to fill what he orders!' (I know. I can get a little radical.)

Finally talked to a sane pharmacist there and he said in a truly sincere manner ... 'no matter who makes an error, be it the doc or us, the finger will be pointed at you' ... which was the way they all wiggled out of this mess.

Yes. I had to have them delivered weekly! Caseworker picked up, counted in front of me like I was a child, and is still doing so w/ one of them. I finally called my doc and told him this was causing me to lose my knowledge of what I am and am not taking.

This was a benzo, and it was a doc error, btw.

I guess the nice pharmacist above just answered you.

I need to call him tonight about another issue that just came up. Daytime pharm is like the one J ran across.

Anyone have a good feeling about a particular chain of pharmacies? I use a 24hr WG.

Yes, and we spend millions to poison the ones grown in other peoples' backyards to sell to us.

I hate impolite pharmacists who make me feel like a drug addict. Do the right thing and complain!

Great UTube video - Thanks Sigismund

I have had problems getting BLOOD PRESSURE meds! Yeah, I'm really having problems taking too much Avapro! The doctor switched me from 1/2 a pill once a day to 1/2 a pill twice a day. You would think I was a junkie. Too bad if I run out of pills and stroke out. I had to remind them this was NOT a controlled substance, that I had a valid prescription, and that I would pay CASH if necessary to get the meds. Sounds like drug seeking behavior to me............ LOL

I was given a half hour talking to by my pharmacist for buying pseudoephedrine.

Eventually I said
"Is that it? Can I pay?'

Hi MB. Is it true BP meds work a bit like benzos? I've heard they control anxiety. Certainly not meant to say there's anything wrong with this MB.

Why is it the horror of the medical industry for patients to be seeking relief from the TORTURE of anxiety??

Why are we treated like criminals??

I never heard of anyone taking Avapro to help anxiety. I just know without it my pressure tops 190/110. You would THINK they would want me to take it!

Yep. I'm much better to get along w/ when my anxiety is under control.

The people in the world seem to be of the thinking the more pain or the more confusion or the more unhappiness one can handle without medication, it is a quality of a better person!

It feels like belittling. It feels WRONG.

You need to get your scripts filled at another pharmacy. I would have been "over the counter"
on this chump.

My advice? Dump the chump.
