TCA's Being Used more?

Posted by bulldog2 on January 12, 2009, at 14:07:24

In the last couple of weeks I received two scripts for tcas for residents at a condo where I work part time. Both were elderly people and the doses were in the ad range. One woman recieved a script for anafranil 200 mg and another amitriptyline 100 mg.
Wonder if docs are using them more as they are more potent for major depression.

This is what I have been reading. I guess a lot of people are not faring so well on the SSRIs and going back to the older drugs. I almost did myself.
I read somewhere a long time ago that advised not to try anew drug until it had been on the market for at least 5yrs. Of course I always think I am above the law so do it anyway.

SSRI's are older than five years and even cymbalta last took it when lived at Beach which was over four years ago. So I guess I'm safe with the SSRI's . Even safer with the benzos. Phillipa

Can be one of the sides but never had that problem. These people at the condo are in their 70's and getting these meds so I guess the docs know what they're doing..

People are living so much longer, my granparents were 96 & 98. Isn't it great they can be happy the last 30 years of their lives?

Oh, BullDog, thats right, write me! I forgot I have something to tell you. It slipped my mind yesterday when we spoke, sorry!
