As far as weight neutral options for mood stabilizers, Lamictal is something to consider. It is particularly good to prevent rapid cycling.

Wellbutrin is an antidepressant that should only be used in addition to a mood stabilizer for bipolar.

I lose weight on Lamictal.

I've heard that Wellbutrin will help if you are gaining.

AD's= wellbutrin, effexor, pristiq (weight loss or neutral)
i actually lost a few pounds on lexapro but i think that's not the norm.
-and poster above was right about wellbutrin, it can be stimulating to most so u normally need either a mood stabilizer or AP to go with it to avoid manic episodes.

MS= lamictal, Topamax in fact many docs rx topamax when then rx things like zyprexa and the like to help stop weight gain.

AP=geodon and abilify but i've heard both weight loss and weight gain on it.

best bet is to try to sneak in some exercise with whatever drug you take. if the drug works and you feel better, yuo can have more energy and excercise thus loosing some pounds.

-Topamax usually makes you loose 5 lbs right off the bat.
-Tegretol doest cause weight gain as far as I know.
-Lamictal is neutral, thats what im on.
Lamictal is sweet, practically no side effects for most.. Adjuct it with Tegretol or Topamax and i would say thats one good combo without weigh gain as far as mood stabilizers go.. they are both ok alone unless your bipolar is a 10/10, 10 being really bad, then you might want to put them as as combo, theres some other anticonvulsants that dont cause much weight, but im at a loss of names at the moment... most do.
As for Antidepressants, Wellbutrin is good as long as you dont have anxiety.
- luvox is neutral
- Parnate probably will loose u weight, but you might not want to go down the rute of MAOIs yet..?? i dont know.
-Prozac may or may not.. i never tried it.
- I dont know much about TCA's, their side effect profile kept me away.
