Dare I say I may be feeling a bit better?

Posted by dapper on November 27, 2008, at 3:44:30

My latest drug trial is showing some positive results. I switched to nefazodone about a month ago, and just reached 300mg/daily. The negative thought patterns and 'mental pain' are easing up slowly but surely. I actually have been tempted to socialize more, go out more, maybe even get back into shape. Just thought I would put my results thus far up here to remind you all that finding the right drug can pick you back up. I was in my pit pretty deep, and thought about suicide for a great portion of my days.

Side effect for me is a disrupted sleep/wake pattern. A bit of insomnia and I sleep in late. No sexual side effects, thank God. Mix that with feeling better, and the sleep issue is not a big deal for me at this point whatsoever, especially since I work nights, and have my days free. As long as my liver doesn't implode, all in all I would say I am having a positive response to nefazodone. And my prescription is dirt cheap to boot, and I even get a AAA discount! Helps when you have no insurance.

Best of luck to you all struggling in your quest for mental contentment.

Very promising story and I wish it strongly to continue getting better week by week.

As to the "imploding liver" comment, have you ever heard of Milk Thistle? You should be taking it daily. It is such a strong pro-liver herb it can even partially heal alcoholic-damaged livers, and can protect against acute liver toxicity from mushroom poisoning. For liver protection, health, and rejuvenation, it might be wise to consider Milk Thistle. It is cheap, even good brands, and rarely has any side effects. Don't just take my word for it though. Do a google search. Also go to pubmed and type in the search box "Milk Thistle". When you get the name of its active ingredient, type that in the search box also.

Just wanted to drop a post on my current experience with Nefazodone. I am up to 400mg once daily, and am continuing to feel far improved. Negative thoughts were constantly running through my head like a mouse in a wheel, but I feel like the volume has been turned down big time. I am much more calm, anxious worrisome thoughts have dissipated, and overall thinking much clearer. I don't feel overly good, or manic , I feel like I have been lifted up to normalcy. Starting to rethink old goals, and clean up the mess I have made for myself while being an anxious depressive. I have put just a touch of lamictal in to the mix, 25mg, for now, to keep my mood constant.

For side effects, I am experiencing tinnitus, but not too bad that its much of a bother. Moderate insomnia, and I still have some hives and itching on my upper legs/thighs. But that's been an issue for about a year, and has been an issue with numerous meds. Might be from stress, or reaction to meds. Going to address it with doctor on next visit.

Best of luck to you all currently struggling. Can't get to heaven without passing through hell.

Oh geez, the list is getting long. First ever was Cymbalta, then zoloft and prozac. Never been very succesful on any SSRI. Most effective drug I have used has been Effexor, until it pooped out after a couple years. Then switched briefly to cymbalta. Been on wellbutrin before, which I can't feel any difference with. Have tried stablon, and Ixel, both with interesting but ineffective results. Um, lamictal helped, it worked to keep me level with the effexor. The sexual side effects became too much for me.

Had a string of bad events occur in 08 that put my stress and anxiety through the roof. Nefazadone did a good job at bringing me back to feeling 'normal'. Some of my stress and depression have been situational, but most of my symptoms began and came out of nowhere. I have read that nefazodone is great with anxiety and is okay with depressive symptoms. I am getting my life back on track with certain respects and am level headed for now. But I can feel my depressive symptoms in the back of my brain and feel they may be a problem in the future. For this reason I am probably gonna obtain some agomelatine and give that a try, before accepting where I am at with the nefazadone.
