Nortriptyline - Zoloft + testosterone??

Posted by ricker on August 9, 2008, at 20:46:38

Hi all,

Thought I'd give an update on my new cocktail.
I started nortriptyline 3 days ago, taking 50mg at night along with zoloft 50mg a.m. and clonazepam 0.5mg bid.

I was taking remeron 15mg at night with zoloft 100mg a.m. - no change with clonazepam.

I had problems the first 2 nights with sleep, but last night was much better.
I do feel a slight increase in energy and motivation although I'm beginning to feel slightly anxious...very mild.

My doc said I could increase the nortrip. to 75mg and decrease zoloft to 25mg. I am scheduled to see my pdoc in 2-1/2 weeks, so I may just stay where I'm at for now.
I also stopped taking lamactil 50mg 2 days ago so I'm hoping the minor anxiety I'm experiencing will diminish as my body adjusts to the recent changes. So, overall, I would say everything is good...no major reactions.

Actually, I'm feeling alot like I did when I started clomipramine about 20 years ago. Thinking back, clomipramine worked far better than any of the ssri's I've tried and I was on it for approx. 11 years.

I also had my testosterone level checked. The normal range is between 23 - 83 pmoi/l (canadian units) I believe. Mine was normal low at 26 pmoi/l.
My doc said they will only test for available free? if the level is below 23pmoi/l. He was going to try me on testosterone cream but said I did not require it as my level was not low enough.
Anyone with knowledge on this feel free to comment as I'm not quite sure if I should pursue testosterone treatment. :-)

Regards, Rick

Why did you eventually stop Clomipramine after being on it for 11 years?

Hi Phillipa,

No, the clomipramine did not poop out. The only side effect I had while on clomip. was a slightly elevated heartbeat.... 85-95 range.
My pdoc said that the "new" ssri's would solve that problem?
He was right, my heartbeat did slow down, along with everything else those wonderful ssri's work on. :-(

It's funny that I've never revisited clomipramine over the years.
Talk about buying into the "newer is better" theory.... keep trying all the new ad's cause they "must" be better?

Regards, Rick

Well, one thing SSRIs don't have is anti-cholinergic effects, so they do have that going for them.
