I decided to try supplementing my 10mg Celexa and 450mg of Eskalith per day with a standard 1.5mg pill of Deplin.
I tried my first pill yesterday and got about an hour of feeling good, then about 20 minutes of hypomania. In the evening I just felt kind of tired and a little out of it. When I went to bed I fell asleep fine, then popped awake a couple hours later, which is something I haven't been doing. I couldn't sleep so I took a half of an Ambien and slept 'till morning.
Unfortunately, it seems my depression has become exacerbated today. I took a half of another pill anyway, but am seriously wondering whether I should continue the Deplin. I guess if there were evidence that it improves with time like other psych drugs I would stick with it, but so far it's not so great.

Come on Bob, we both know that it takes more than 2 days to test this drug - or any other drug. Deplin can take as long as 3 months to work. Please consider this before making a decision to discontinue it.

Point taken. However, all of us here have also taken drugs that have resulted in an immediate degradation in condition. The eternal question, whether to stick out a drug that's causing problems. That having been said, I'm going to try and hang in there.

Yes. I agree with you completely. There have been many instances when I hoped a drug wouldn't work because I didn't want to have to tolerate the side effects it produced.

Are you tolerating Deplin well so far?

Deplin caused absolutely no side effects the two weeks I took it. Just one day of feeling better but it could have been me and not the med. Phillipa

Your doctor seems to have a rather discriminatory attitude towards elderly patients! How can it not hurt them? Considering that elderly patients metabolize all meds more slowly than younger patients, any med is more, not less, likely to hurt them. Cecilia

Anyone know much about the difference, is Deplin just a slightly tweaked version of SAMe to allow it to be sold by prescription? Cecilia

I'd have to agree. I've gotten side effects from taking my Deplin.

Yes what type of side effects as I got none. Pdoc is elderly herself so don't think it's the case and I'm not young either. On the official website it's side effects are compared to a sugar pill. Love Phillipa

Is the Deplin you are taking augmenting something else, or are you taking it as monotherapy?

I have been taking Deplin for more than two weeks, I have seen some definite improvements in my sleep cycle. I am sleeping better and feel more well rested when I wake up. I do see improvements.
However, after 9 days of taking the Deplin I went to the emergency room with what turned out to be a small kidney stone(my first) I assumed it was unrelated to the new medication.
Five days later I went to the emergency room again because I was experiencing some strange attacks. Feelings of tingling in my arms and legs. Shortness of breath, Tunnel vision and feeling near faint. I was released with a diagnosis of Hyperventilation Syndrome. I was a little bit annoyed by this diagnosis, because I was playing with my kids when the first attack happened, not irritable or stressed. I have since had several more episodes, that are not connected to any obvious stressors. I have never suffered panic attacks or hyperventilated in the past(I'm 38).
Could this be because the the Deplin? Has anyone else had a similar side effect.
I really dont want to stop taking the Deplin but I cant function like this.

It's hard for me to rule out anything for any of these meds and/or treatments any longer. I started to have some weird feelings on Deplin after a couple of weeks like joint pain, itchy rashes and a scratchy throat. I stopped it and the discontinuation was destabilizing for me. However, I may be one of the most sensitive people to meds ever to be on this board.

Not cheap for sure, I don't know, 7.5mg -- day 2.
Obviously nothing to report at this point, considering the lag time of possibly psychoactive substances.
The only concern is that it could cause some anxiety and wierd effects to my disorder that would be unwanted -- since I gather it is an antidepressant augmenter.
Only time will say.

Hi.
The latency for gleaning an antidepressant response from Deplin can be 2-3 months. I hope you can tolerate it. Yes, it can be activating at first and produce some sleep disturbances, but these tend to wear off in my experience.
Currently:
Nardil 60mg
nortriptyline 150mg
Lamictal 200mg
Abilify 20mg
Deplin 15.0mg
Good luck. You can use some.
