Cross Post. Mental illness doco/insight

I initially posted this in psychology but I think it merits a mention in here too, not everyone goes into psychology.

***THERE IS A TRIGGER WARNING ON THE WEB PAGE***, and don't call the phone numbers unless you're in Australia.

I missed this the other night and I could have kicked myself, thankfully you can stream it online. I just watched the work shop part, for people without mental illness. They make them wear head phones to simulate schizophrenia, voices etc.. and then give them tasks to do, it's very interesting so far, they are having trouble coping but they are seeing it from the other side.

Well, I finished watching it and found it very inspirational for people with and without mental illness. It is very open, honest, raw, funny and sad. Bit of a roller coaster ride really. I commend all the people who agreed to be filmed.

Some people might not be in a good place at the moment to watch it, in regards to suicide and cutting etc... but if you suffer from schizophrenia, or any mental illness, it's not a bad way to show people who don't understand your diagnosis to gain some insight into your disorder.

I had a little trouble streaming it at times, but I just put it down to being a mac user.

I know the show is called *enough rope* but that has nothing to do with the context of this episode, the episode is called *Angels and Demons*

Enough Rope has been running for a few years and it's a well researched, highly respected program that isn't from a commercial station, (or cable) so the over the top, sensationalist reporting isn't a factor either. It's funded by our government and they are free to do what they like, and even stick it to the government on a regular basis.

It's usually a talk show style program more along the lines of Parkinson but not as commercial (no pomp and ceremony factor), actually the host interviewed Parky, for our UK babblers, but I can't compare it to anything I've seen from the US, sorry.

This episode isn't in a talk show format.

I honestly thought this would create interest.....

Thank you, Cactus.

So much suffering. I liked what he said about 'a chance to belong'. A lot of people with such problems have not belonged from early on, and it is to the credit of the people in the film that they have managed to find somewhere. Our communities have been fractured, which is why we are here online, for me anyway.

I was in my 20s before I saw homelessness. Now, in this little town, there are lots of homeless people, some of them clearly mentally ill.

And that woman was doing a doctorate in molecular biology? I'm so impressed.
