KLONOPIN VERSUS XANAX

Posted by agneswalenty on March 29, 2008, at 15:43:46

SIMPLE ISSUE. KLONOPIN (CLONAZEPAM) HAS A HALF LIFE OF 40-50 HOURS, XANAX HAS A HALF LIFE OF 6 HOURS. HENCE, XANAX CAUSES AN UP AND DOWN ROLLER COASTER ANXIETY ATTACK, WHILE KLONOPIN 1-2MG BID KEEPS YOU STEADY, WITH LESS SIDE EFFECTS.

1 YEAR AGO I WENT TO A PSYCHIATRIST, AT THE URGING OF MY INTERNIST. HE TOLD ME TO IMMEDIATELY THROW AWAY XANAX (LESS CHANCE OF XANAX HUNGER) AND TO JUST MAINTAIN MY RECOVERY ON KLONOPIN.

KLONOPIN IS URGED MORE AND MORE IN MOST ARTICLES REGARDING ANXIETY. DOSAGES VARY, 1MG TID; 2MG BID; 2MG TID. DEPENDS ON THE ONSET OF SIDE EFFECTS. BUT FOR SURE, KLONOPIN IS PERFERABLE.

No. Not at all simple. There are no hard and fast rules that apply to everyone regarding which medication is better for them.

Personally, I much prefer xanax. I suspect clonazepam made me more depressed. With xanax, I have complete flexibility in dosing and do not experience a roller-coaster effect or withdrawal symptoms. YMMV.

Same here klonopin depressed me horribly and xanax a wonder med for me for years. Now it's valium but did take a bit of xanax with it last night as couldn't sleep and slept longer and better than a long while. Some do better on klonopin. Love Phillipa

for me personally, xanax did the roller coaster ride which i agree with agnes on, valium and klonopin don't. Also klonopin does not depress me. I prefer a drug that I only have to take once a day if possible. Xanax is better for situational panic and panic attacks.
I still have no idea why north america is still so against prescribing valium first before (klonopin/rivotril). The rest of the world seem to steer clear of clonazepam (rivotril/klonopin) and gives valium first. Clonazepam is a very powerful drug which I take because valium wasn't working but it has worked wonders for me over the years on and off. I hope to switch back to it when I taper my dose down because my GAD seems to be getting better. Xanax is great for panic attacks and valium or klonopin/rivotril is better for generalized anxiety disorders. I found out that by taking xanax i would wake early with terrible anxiety, so you just need to find the one that works for you and your condition. It's quite hard for the masses in Australia and the UK to get prescriptions for both xanax and klonopin/rivotril. It's either valium or serapax/serax. Anyone else agree with that last statement?

ps angnes, typing in capitals means you're screaming, i mean no disrespect by that

Clonazepam made me more depressed but only for about 1 1/2 weeks or so... after that it has been brilliant stuff that's worked better than anything else for me.

Dormicum (midazolam) is my favourite of the benzodiazepines. So far, at least - I haven tried a lot of them.
