From wikipedia, Orange Book @FDA (http://www.fda.gov/cder/orange/default.htm) and Drugs.com entries,

It was also a US, but not Canadian medication, introduced in 1959, somewhat after Chlorpromazine (Largactil, Thorazine).

Its generic name in the is chlorprothixene, Taractan in the US and has been discontinued.

A similar medication in the thioxanthene class is Navane (thiothixene), seldom used and generally replaced with Risperdal.

Another drug from the thioxanthene class is flupenthixol (Fluanxol). I took low dose (0.5mg/day) flupenthixol some years ago. It was great! It had both anti-depressant and anxiolytic properties. Unfortunately, being a typical AP, it carries a risk of tardive dyskinesia. Paradoxically, flupenthixol is considered to improve motivation, much like amisulpride.

Yes Flupethixol is a fairly potent drug like haloperidol -- it is often used in depot injections in hospitals. But has other uses too. It does carry the average of 5% of TD, you're right.

What I meant for the previous poster is all the previous medications mentioned, including Navane are thioxanthenes (similar to phenothiazines).

Navane is still available in the Orange Book but I dont think you'll find many prescriptions. That's what I meant.
