Can Seroquel and Promazine be taken together??

Posted by jms600 on February 27, 2008, at 3:03:44

Hi everyone,

I went to see my doctor a few days back who told me that the drugs that I'm currently taking - 50mg of Promazine and 150mg of Seroquel are NOT safe when taken together and I must stop the Promazine. Trouble is I rely on the Promazine to help my anxiety, panic attacks and also to help me sleep (unlike most people here, Seroquel doesn't seem to make me drowsy). I dont take the Promazine all the while just when my anxiety and panic is really bad.

I've done a bit of research on the net and can't find any info anywhere saying that Promazine and Seroquel shouldn't be taken concurrently.

The Seroquel doesn't appear to be having much of an effect on my anxiety, yet my doctor wants me to stick with it. The Seroquel doesn't make me in the slightest bit drowsy nor am I experiencing any nasty side effects from it.

Is my doctor just over-reacting?? Can a patient still take Seroquel and Promazine together?

Thanks!

hi,

i have had to use these kinds of medicines for 32 years,

i would like to give you an answer but i have to say that

i really don't know ...

so my answers are only:

please rely on your personal doc, meet him every time you need and can, tell him/her how you feel,

don't try to be an expert on drugs without am medical prpfessional education,

take all the medicine he/she orders you to take, no more, no less...

that's how i have done in the recent decades,

i also tried to "play a doctor" when i was 20 y,
and it caused me and my nearest ones a lot of trouble...

yours chris

Its hard to say, since Promazine is not available in the US. Curiously enough, the dated agent and its relative is used as a veterinary drug for intractible conditions and vomiting, which would make sense since it is a phenothiazine. But it doesn't have the potency of chlorpromazine.

I would go on the advice of your doctor and/or pharmacist in your country as it doesn't appear to be a north american agent.
