Seroquel to Geodon?

Posted by Basia on February 27, 2008, at 4:06:18

Hi

Seroquel isn't working for me that great and I have been on it for about six weeks. I am getting visual disturbances and dissociation with some very mild paranoia and have had to add a bit of Sulpiride , my old med that I had been on for 8 years at 800mg. I am not taking 100mg of the Sulpride as and when needed to take the edge off and have weaned myself down to 0.5 mg of Ativan from 2mg over the past 6 weeks. I had to swap sulpiride for Seroquel due to dangerously high prolactin levels. Have to say i am gradually getting better. However, my pdoc says that if it doesn't totally improve my symptoms so that i can go back to my job, he will switch me to Geodon and import it from another country as it isn't available in the UK yet. I tried Abilify a few years ago and it gave me terrible anxiety and akathisia. Is Geodon similar? What are the most common side effects? Has anyone tried both Seroquel and Geodon (not at once)? Any success stories compared to Seroquel?

Thanks a million for your feedback!

Lyn

I'm not having much success with Seroquel either - I'm taking it for severe anxiety and it's really not doing very much.

You say you had some success with Sulpiride (apart from the side effects). Have you thought of trying Amisulpride - similar to Sulpiride but a newer drug , I believe. It's just a thought - might be worth considering/discussing with your doctor..?

I was on Amisulpiride years ago, but it has the same tendency to increase prolactin levels, like Olanzapine and Risperidone. Seroquel probably is the least likely to elevate prolactin levels.

Thanks anyway!
