Frustrated with Nardil

Posted by squatlover on February 26, 2008, at 8:25:59

I know I'm posting all the time. I am now 33 days into 60mg, and 50 days into Nardil after titration. I had one beautiful day after 21 days on 60mg, but essentially that was it. I assumed that those occasions would become more frequent with more time. It hasn't and all I get is loads of side effects. If I got one good day, shouldn't I get more at this dose?

I also experienced some particularly good days during my titration. Now things have leveled off, and I just feel normal, but without anxiety or depression. I still have some bad days every once in a while.

How are you feeling right now? Do you still have depression or anxiety? You may need to try a higher dose, but not if you have bad side effects. I found that after each titration upwards, it took about 4 weeks for the side effects to fade. Some have remained constant, like constipation, anorgasmia, and weight gain.

Anyways, you might not experience a really good day everyday, or even any day on Nardil. It's not meant to make you feel great, just to diminish anxiety and depression. If it made you feel great everyday, it would probably be a controlled drug... :) But on average you should be feeling somewhat better by now, given your dosage and length of time on it.

I'm still at 60..if you're not having any good days at all, you may want to think about moving up a notch..a good day for me is when I feel social and my anxiety and depression are low or gone and I feel just "normal".. side effects aren't subtle but I find the drug is.. I have pretty much the same side effects as Phoenix1, except one more lovely one..terrible gas..I gave my brother a t shirt for xmas that said "f*rts are funny"..I think I need to borrow it..

Please don't think you are posting too much..it's hard to try a new med when you have a bazillion questions rolling around in your head..I hope you get some relief soon..

I remember you saying that (Justherself) that it was like switching on a light, and thats what it felt like just for one day. I wish I posted that day. It is a bit frustrating knowing that I can get that feeling on this drug. However I am persistent and I want to carry on the same dose. I read some people getting great results over 4 months. If I still feel the same after 6 weeks (8 more days) I will up to 75mg which is 1:1 with my bodyweight.

Yes it was a feeling like a light bulb had been switched on, but that kind of euphoria didn't last..although I wish you could feel it for more than one day..maybe the fact you did experience one day could mean it's going to work for you..just hang in there and give it time. You may not get that "wow" feeling..but it may work just as well for you without the period of euphoria..

I'm going to talk to my pdoc about increasing to 75 today, so maybe we can compare notes!

Not going to do increase yet cause adding another med..are you going to try 75 mg? I'd like to keep in touch if you do. My pdoc says it takes at least a month after each increase to feel the effects (then he went on about a lot of technical stuff and he lost me ;))..I know the side effects can be hard to deal with..

What exactly are you experiencing with side effects? Maybe there is something that can help to reduce them so you can give an increase some time to work..

I just really hope it will work for you..but I guess it's like any other drug..it works for some but not for others..keep posting

I'm not going to up to 75mg until next week. I've been 5 weeks+ 1 day at 60mg. Its mainly daytime tiredness that gets me. I have altered this by taking 15mg at lunch, and 45mg at night so it isn't too bad.

Do you know if you can take all your dose in one go at night? I'll post this on another thread.

I looked for your other post but maybe I missed it. I find nardil to be more energizing during the day. I take 45 in the am..15 around noon and 15 around 4 pm. I have insomnia from it, but I've found it doesn't really matter when I take it, I still have the insomnia..plus some other side effects, but they don't bother me too much..other than the horrific gas!

How long on Nardil before that day of euphoria? » Justherself54
