Zyprexa weight gain nightmare

Posted by lif101part2 on February 20, 2008, at 17:44:20

I have been on Zyprexa for 8 months; I am pregnant and have gained over 70 pounds! After my baby comes in a month my doctor wants me to try Topamax and Metformin. Then she wants me to wait a month and try Geodon. I have been on Geodon before and have had horrible allergies. Does anyone know of a good histamine blocker to add to Geodon? Does anyone have any advice on how to lose the substantial Zyprexa weight? This is my 3rd time on Zyprexa and each time I gain over 40 lbs in a matter of months. My dr also wants me to try Asenapine which is like Zyprexa without the weight gain. The problem is I am bipolar and Asenapine is only being tested with Schizophrenics. Does anyone know how to get Asenapine? Thank you :)

Yes I too have gained 45lbs in eight months on Zyprexa. My doctor is changing me to Geodon 80mg. When you went on Geodon did you lose any weight? I too am bi-ploar so I also take Effexor 300mg. This is my third day on Geodon and I feel kind of strange. I assume it is withdrawal from Zyprexa. I was taking 10mg.

I have been on Geodon and they are switching me back to Geodon after my baby comes. I too am bipolar and am also on Prozac and Lamictal...The only pill that stops my mania has been Ayprexa; I have tried every other antipsychotic and none works. Zyprexa works amazingly but I gain weight and it wrecks me...DOes Geodon give you allergies? I sneeze uncontrollably on it...

No, this is my fourth day on Geodon and I have not experienced any allegric conditions. Although I feel strange, like i said I assume its withdrawal from Zyprexa. What is it about Zyprexa that makes you gain weight? Did you lose some of the weight when you went on Geodon in the past? I would also like to know how to lose the weight that I have gained while using Zyprexa. Good luck to you, I wish you the best.

I have been on Zyprexa 3 times and the first two times I gained 40 lbs... after going off Zyprexa I lost the weight completely within 3 months. According to my doctors the serotonin and histamine blocking effects your weight and metabolism. I have only heard of people gaining weight, and a lot of weight, from Zyprexa. I ahve never had zyprexa withdrawals and I did not feel weird on Geodon, it just did not prevent my mania. Now I am pregnant so I have had to stay on Zyprexa even though I have gained 70 + lbs. I hurt so bad I can barely walk because of the weight on my bad back and pelvis. There isa new drug coming out in about a year called Asenapine. It is supposed to be just like Zyprexa without the horrible weight gain so I am waiting patiently to try it. In the meantime does anyone know how to stay on Zyprexa and lose weight. I am going to try Topamax and maybe metformin... Thank you and best of luck.

This diet tea really works. I know 3 people who have used it with great success. Go to this web site and read about it.

Supprised how similar, to zyprexa. But no weight gain. Only on day 4, and still taking half the zyprexa. Fealing optimistic.

I did lose weight on zyprexa, just by diet and exercise. More recently discovered taking metformin help too.

How much weight did you gain on Zyprexa? What dosage where you on? Why are you still taking half a Zyprexa? Is it to prevent withdrawals? I am on day eight off the Zyprexa. I used to have shakes but no longer do now. But I still feel a little strange. I am now taking Geodon 80mg. Sorry for so many questions, Iwould just like to find answers about how Zyprexa has helped or hurt the person taking it.

Wow, really, no akathisia. Its quite a potent phenothiazine typical. But some people respond quite differently than others. I know I almost went through the walls on Compazine in the ER before I hit the nurse button and they bothered, oh, Benadryl. Still could barely tell the taxi driver home because the Benadryl wore off.

But that's just my experience, I'm glad its working for you. It shows there are different experiences with typicals and atypicals for some patients.

I was taking 10mg for about 10 years. The weight went up and down. I started at 150 lbs, went up to 230 at my hight. Then went on diet and down to 170. Right now I'm about 210.

Taking a half, so I don't move too quickly, this is what doc said to do. I've had problems coming off zyprexa in the past. Where I went psychotic, couldn't eat or sleep. I tried all the other atypicals but seroquel. I read up on perphenazine and decided it may work because of sedation and good reports. So far so good, appatite is down, still get to sleep and not psychotic, racing thoughts and such.

I tried geodon, which did nothing for psychosis,, infact that is when I started hearing voices, I gained weight and got diabetes. I also started to drink more and have problems with sleep.

Zyprexa was realy good for me. Except for diabetes and weight. It also made it hard to get up in morning.
