NARDIL QUESTION(maybe ladies only?)

Posted by Justherself54 on February 11, 2008, at 8:12:03

I used to be the queen of strong bladders, but lately I've noticed that all of a sudden a strong urge to pee hits me and then I have to run, and I mean run, to the bathroom..

any other women who take Nardil experience this..or should I be making a doctor's appointment?

Yes, but I attributed this to being in menopause more than on Nardil, so now I'm not sure what is the cause but I am running too and I used to have a bladder that was foolproof. So it's either the Nardil or decrease in estrogen, could be a combo too. So many physical changes in the past year or two, I don't know what's going on other than the post-50 physical changes.

I'm doing the Kegels to try and control the urinary sphincter. That's alot of funto try and get to work! It used to be so easy...

OK, so being nosy, I read this out of pure curiosity. But hey, it affects men too!!! I either can't really feel my bladder unless it's full (and then I need to urgently go), or else I always feel like I have to urinate. The biggest problem is initiating urination. I can stand/sit there for 10 minutes, knowing my bladder is full, but not being able to initiate urination. This is especially at public urinals when there is "performance pressure".

Urinary retention is a common side effect on Nardil, but what you're describing is a little different. Unless it's really really bothersome, it can probably wait until your next pdoc appointment, or else you could just give him/her a call to let him/her know what's going on to see if he/she thinks it's important enough to come in or adjust your dosage.

Anyways, I have similar issues. I don't want to be too descriptive to my pdoc, because I'm worried he will lower my dose or stop the med alltogether.

Sorry for responding as a man to a womens only thread, but I couldn't resist since I'm having such a similar problem. Anyways, good luck with the side effect. Hopefully it will just disappear as many Nardil side effects seem to...

I'm not on nardil but with menopause I had the and do have the opposite problem post menopausal not feeling when my bladder is full but when it is have to go then not two minutes later then. But thinking back you given me reason to wonder is the reason I always had to urinate every five minutes was cause I was going through menopause. I wonder if peri-menopause causes frequent urination and then post the opposite as almost was having surgery thinking something was wrong til tests said no. So maybe nardil isn't the cause? Are all at that age of the changing hormones? Sorry to intrude but had the same problem on different meds. Phillipa

I menopaused early at 45, and I'm 54 now so I can't attribute it to that..I'm thinking it's the Nardil..but can't be sure..just seems funny that when I did my increase to 60, about 2 weeks later, I'm running to the bathroom..and mine is upstairs..scared I might not make it one of these times!

I'm on approximately week 4 at my correct dosage of Nardil (60mg) and my urinary retention and the difficulty starting to pee are almost gone. I'm hoping some of the other side effects subside as well.
